राग भीमपलासी दिन के रागों में अति मधुर और कर्णप्रिय राग है। इसके अवरोह में सातों स्वरों का प्रयोग किया जाता है। अवरोह में रिषभ और धैवत पर जोर दे कर ठहरा नहीं जाता। अवरोह में धैवत को पंचम का तथा रिषभ को षड्ज का कण लगाने से राग की विशेष शोभा आती है। षड्ज-मध्यम तथा पंचम-गंधार स्वरों को मींड के साथ विशेष रूप से लिया जाता है। वैसे ही निषाद लेते समय षड्ज का तथा गंधार लेते समय मध्यम का स्पर्श भी मींड के साथ लिया जाता है। इस राग में निषाद कोमल को ऊपर की श्रुति में गाया जाता है, जिसके लिये बहुत रियाज कि आवश्यकता होती है। यह पूर्वांग प्रधान राग है। इसका विस्तार तीनों सप्तकों में होता है।यह गंभीर प्रकृति का राग है। श्रृंगार और भक्ति रससे यह राग परिपूर्ण है। इस राग में ध्रुवपद, ख्याल, तराने आदि गाये जाते हैं। कर्नाटक संगीत में आभेरी नामक राग इस राग के समान है। काफी थाट का ही राग धनाश्री, भीमपलासी के ही समान है। धनाश्री में वादी पंचम है जबकि भीमपलासी में वादी मध्यम है।यह स्वर संगतियाँ राग भीमपलासी का रूप दर्शाती हैं - सा ,नि१ ,नि१ सा ; ,नि१ सा ग१ रे ; सा रे सा ,नि१ ; ,नि१ ,नि१ सा ; ,प ,नि१ सा ग१ ; ग१ म ग१ रे सा ; सा ग१ म ; म ग१ प ; प म ध प म ग१ म ; म ग१ प म प म ग१ म ; ग१ म प ग१ म ; ग१ ग१ रे सा ; ,नि१ सा म ; प म ग१ ; ग१ रे सा ; सा ग१ म प ; म ग१ प ; प म ध प ; नि१ ध प ; प म ध प म ; प म ; ग१ म प नि१ ; सा' नि१ नि१ नि१ नि१ सा' ; प प सा' नि१ रे' सा' ; सा' रे' सा' नि१ नि१ सा' नि१ ध प ; प ध प म ग१ प म ; ग१ म ग१ रे सा; ठाट काफी। जाती ओड़व सम्पूर्ण। गायन समय दिन का तृतीय प्रहर (लगभग 10 से 1 बजे तक।) वादी स्वर मध्यम एवं संवादी स्वर षडज है।आरोह अवरोह ,नि१ सा ग१ म प नि१ सा' - सा' नि१ ध प म ग१ रे सा ; ,नि१ सा ,प ,नि१ सा;

What can I say about that heavenly performance? I consider myself unfortunate for never having seen Pandit Ji performing live. His voice is that of God, that instantly purifies the heart and soul. You simply cease to exist in this world for a moment.

Traditional bandish, बडी बेर भई (baRii ber bhaii), but sung with some variations here: [ber बेर is a reference to time (or age) so even if it is sung at places as der or देर as here, it makes no substantial difference to the meaning] अब तो बडी बेर भई अब तो बडी देर भई [टेरत हूं तुमको मेरे रब साईयां] करम करो रे मोरे साइयाँ [करम करो रे मोरे साजना] करम करो जी अब तो पिया भंवर जाल में आन फंसी हो भवसागर ते पार करो मेरे साईयां ॥ [भवसागर में गहे पकरो] +++ बिरज मे धूम मचायी कान्हा कैसे सखि जाऊँ मै अपने धाम । सब सखियन मिल रास रचावत Not sure what he sings here, perhaps something like: अखियन में परत डुलावत [In some traditional texts, the verses are about playing Holi सब सखियन मिल होरी खेलत है अखियन डारत गुलाल ॥]
