It's crazy. It's the same here in Australia Bev. The last 4 or 5 years it's gone insane.I'm just glad our kids are grown up. Can you imagine the food bill for families that have 3 or 4 teenagers? I frankly don't know how they're managing.

When the boys were home (2 of them) we went through a gallon of milk every other day. We would have to buy a cow and milk her if they were still teens.

The sticker shock is crazy! I never buy items that are not on sale with the exception of eggs, coffee and half&half (costco). We went shopping the other day, and classico pasta sauce was on for $1.99, decent price, and I reuse the jars for canning (they fit a 2 piece lid) the limit was 4. As we were picking them up, we noticed the regular price was $4.99! $4.99 for pasta sauce.... yikes!

I have found that cheaper processed food - like lunch meat - has much higher costs when it comes to health. We choose to purchase our food as close to the source as possible and we are eliminating as much of the processed business as we can. What I find as a result of buying meat from butchers or local farmers (where we drove an hour + for bison this week and pasture raised chickens next week) is that we eat less of the high quality, highly nutritious meat because it satisfies. We incorporate healthy greens, grains, vegetables, and fruit daily. I want to enjoy these years and good fuel gives good health & energy. Yesterday I went to our local produce market. She travels to small farms starting to our south and as summer progresses, she now has local produce including local Amish and as summer progresses the sell a large portion they raise themselves. Her prices are better than the grocery. She also supplies local restaurants with fresh tomatoes all summer. This weekend we are enjoying fresh beets, corn on the cob, zucchini, baking potatoes, watermelon, muskmelon and a few caramels made fresh by a local candy maker. That trip cost me $30 so cheaper than the grocery store! I believe I am frugal but frugality for me is a matter of my dollar buying the greatest quality over quantity. I have a very deep, deep 4 pillar (fresh, frozen, canned, and long term) pantry so that makes shopping much less expensive. It took a while to build a working pantry but it has allowed me to just constantly rotate, back fill, and buy what we are “hungry for” without too much concern about price increases. I cook enough food at a meal so that we can enjoy it over a couple of days in sandwiches, salads, reheating, or recreating into something different. That helps us avoid lunch meat, processed cheese, and other preservative packed lunches as we stretch our food dollars into many meals. My happy hens provide the fresh dark orange yolked eggs. I am so pleased with them that we do not sell our bounty, I give our eggs away like I promised God I would do if I ever had chickens.

We have been seriously thinking about setting our large enclosed porch up to grown some basic veggies, possibly fruit for the winter months. Our grocery bill is just over $300 a week, mind you I have 4 adult, 2 children and animals. We don't eat out, we don't eat extravagant meals either, the schools expect fresh fruit and veggies in the kids lunches so that's what half our weekly budget buys, the prices are outrageous.

I cringe everytime i go to the grocery store. I know that just getting the basics like milk eggs cheese, bread is more expensive everytime! I have run into some fantastic deals by stopping at Meijers on the way home from Scotts treatments. This week i got 24 lbs of beautiful strawbwrries for $30! I cut them all up today and tomorrow they will go into the freezer. Last week i got blackberries for $.50 a half pint. I'm kicking myself for not buying more as i only got to freeze 4 bags of them. Also found tenny shoes which I've been looking for for 3 months. Buy one pair get the 2nd for $1. So i got shoes for Scott and I both for the cost on one! I don't seem to buy much meat at all anymore. Only when i find a great deal on something because I've been freaking out on meat prices! Told Scott we are gonna be vegatarians soon!

That’s INSANE!!!!! Honest to goodness I don’t know how they expect people to do it! I don’t know how young families are surviving right now. Guess they expect us all to survive on beans and rice. Unfortunately I don’t see people changing their spending and they keep using plastic to pay for everything. That’s what scares me the most. They don’t even have a clue how deep in debt they are truly getting. It’s sooo scary! God bless. 🥰❤️🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦

I saw potatoes for $2/lb recently. Chickens seem to be tripled in price, so we get them from the farmer's market at the same price, beef for $14/lb there and I will pay it because it is raised locally and delicious compared to what we used to buy. But yes, a bill of $63 for a chicken and a small roast...ouch. So it will be a treat instead of taken for granted. We had the roast one day and ate half of it, and the rest was made into a stew and plumped up with beans and veggies.

Prices are about the same in Illinois ~ shopping for anything gives me a massive headache at this point. Meal planning has never been my thing, but these days that is all I do. It is sad when my 'hobby' costs less than eating (and it's too bad that I can't sculpt out clay foods for us to eat because it would be cheaper!).

Sorry for the personal question... I hope this is ok to ask.. are the Poise Pads any good?? My sweet aunt is needing something like that and we've tried some other brands and had nothing but problems with them. We haven't tried poise yet but have wondered if they'd be a better choice.. I am doing some of her shopping & personal hygiene care for her at the moment & we are hating the product her insurance is supplying her with. If poise is a good product, I'd rather get an opinion on them & pay for them then have all the problems we're having with the generic stuff we're given, Thanks and God bless!!!
