This video was a good reminder for me to consider rounding the corners on bed quilts. The quilt on our bed hangs down a ways and it's easy to catch your foot on the corner of the quilt when rounding the bed. When I washed the quilt this summer (quite an undertaking to launder a king size quilt in the bathtub!), I discovered the bottom corners were the dirtiest part of the quilt. I wish I had made those corners rounded!

I still have some of the binding fabric, so rounding the corners after the fact is a consideration. I will have to decide if it's worth taking out some of the quilting.

This video was so very helpful to me. I am dyslexic, and cutting stripes on the bias just defeated me, even though I have watched countless other videos….so I didn’t. But I had a piece of fabric that I really wanted to be on the bias. I followed your method of folding and SUCCESS. Thank you, thank you for helping a dyslexic, angle challenged quilter😊.

You are my favourite KZfaq quilter, having made your 3-in-1 tool and used your binding instructions over and over, so that my many pieced tops have been transformed into completed quilts. Instead of fearing binding, I now welcome it.♥️ Thank you for highlighting more binding techniques to think about and try.👏🏻

Amen sistah on the Sewtites cutting system! Paired with a new gate leg table I picked up used, I no longer hate cutting. The beveled ruler is [chef’s kiss] fantastic, and I, too, am reaching for those boosters more and more. The mat is heavy, though, so some may need to plant it on a spot and keep it there rather than shuffling like I’m doing. Worth the price tag. Never going back to a regular mat.

I led a Quilts for Kids chapter for 10 years. During that time we received many lovely quilts but it was obvious some quilters struggled with the bindings. So I started a "Better Bindings" class at a couple of local quilt shops. I encourage using striped fabric because the barbershop appearance really adds some sparkle to a finished quilt. One tip I share with the students is to lay the ruler so that the ends of the strips are parallel to the stripes on the fabric. (Some ends may need to be recut to become parallel with the stripe but it's SO worth it in the end!) Then when joining the strips, all the stripes will now be parallel to the seam, instead of leaving mismatched, choppy right angles that are so obvious. The seams are neatly disguised -- nearly impossible to see from a few feet away. When the lines of the stripe are widely spaced (as in the black on white one you show in the video) I try to make the seams so they just reveal the line in the fabric. I have never seen this tip in quilting books yet it almost guarantees tidy and invisible seams. I am hooked on this method!

Thanks a great tutorial. I have been bias binding my quilts for a very long time. To me they are cosier if they don't have pointy corners. 😊 But beware of polka dots or any graphic pattern that is printed on the diagonal. You have to fussy cut so the dots are all the same. I can't be bothered with that so no polka dot binding for my quilts. 😊🇨🇦

I have been quilting forever. Right around the time when a few quilters entered machine quilting in the big shows and won big ribbons. The quilt world was turned upside down. 🤣 But hand sewn bindings was still the standard. I've entered many shows and the judges are the fiercest on meticulous bindings. I have learned to do just that. However I have noticed on You Tube and Instagram how today it appears that a lot of quilters machine sew their bindings down. I have tried doing that on small quilts and just do not like the look. Had to rip it out. I understand how quickly you can get that final step done and how durable it would be. And unless entering in a show it doesn't really matter. I personally just think it looks better hand sewn. Old school quilter in some ways and modern in others. But in the end the important thing is "just getting it done".....☺

I am going to try rounded corners for one great reason: I want to use my binder attachment to put on the binding, and it's too fiddly with square corners.
