Beijing was once filled with bicycles. But as prosperity grew, those who could swapped their bikes for automobiles. Now bike-share systems have hit the scene. Will two-wheeled transportation soon rule the roads in China's capital once again?

I was wondering what the bicycle infru around China was like!!! You would think with all those High-speed and higher-speed rail lines and huge ever expanding metro rail systems they would have an amazing bicycle network (with seperated lanes) in all cities, but I see they didn't built bike centric cities as part of their central planning over the last 50 years, but it makes sense because it think it was looked at as a poors man transit mode!! I expect India will build bike centric cities from the outset as it is were China was 40-50 years ago and adequate bike parking facilties would be a major part of this!!!

Just biked in Beijing 2 days ago and the infra is pretty amazing overall, on most large streets one full lane is reserved for bikes and scooters, and free floating rental bikes are just great, now they have their own dedicated places to park them on sidewalks, I prefer to see a lot of bikes parkings rather than cars all over...

The industry has matured, the bikes are much better and well maintained now. I ride them pretty much everyday and so does everybody else, a pretty convenient and healthy way of transportation.
