Bicycle Sandwich (1901) on Sandwiches of History

Күн бұрынHoly smokes, it has been a while since I cracked open 1901’s 101 Sandwiches. Whaddya say we try the Bicycle Sandwich. My guess is that it was named that because on could stash it an enjoy later while out on a bike ride. Not sure how it’s different from any other sandwich in the book as they all could be consumed in the same fasting but here we are. It’s not a complex sandwich and unfortunately also not terribly interesting. Cue the plus up!

While I do tend to agree with Barry that it's easy to turn to bacon every time because there's so little that doesn't go with bacon… I have to agree. Everything in there works with the bacon. lol

Day 25 of asking Barry to make the sandwich I submitted!~~ This sandwich would be good for a picnic I think. I’d throw some hot sauce in with the mayo before mixing. Then hit it with some leftover ham from Sunday dinner. Looks great, cheers Barry!

I suppose the name "Very,very basic potato salad sandwich" was already in use?(And yes,bicycles were all the rage back in the golden days of the way back machine so I'm guessing the slices of egg and potato were supposed to resemble bicycle wheels but I like my name better),

Hey Barry, curious how you or other community members think about ratings. If you think about it like a percentage scale, as in academic grades, a 4.5, or 45% to me would be beyond failing and maybe bordering on inedible, and 7 would be more like meh or average. So whenever I try to rate food, I find myself giving a lot of 7s and up because there’s generally a base of decency required for me to put it in my mouth at all. Would love to see a video on the rating system!

Interesting, way of rating things. Using that rating system seems like the lowest end of the scale becomes relatively unused, non-existent and pointless, if the median is already considered failing. That being said, it is used sometimes. Rotten Tomatoes uses it for their movie ratings, I believe.. but I think the most common 5 or 10 point rating system begins at 0 as the base, and the median numbers are the middle ground - not good, not bad, just alright.

Have you had the Persian potato salad sandwich? There’s a Persian sub shop near me where you can the salad as a side or … in a sub! It’s heavenly carbtastic!

It's definitely a solid base for a sandwich, but I think it needs some meat. A slice of bacon, or a slice of ham, or best of all, some good corned beef.

If you are going to make a boiled egg sandwich, it is much better with salad cream rather than mayonnaise. Also, eggs need plenty of salt and pepper. Cress would be better than lettuce.
