Longer or shorter, Mercouris' program is always extremely long-winded. Whatever the condition of his videos away from home, he will go on and on about it (more than TWO minutes today). The value of each program's content is greatly diminished by his mannerisms. He is a mediocre commentator and analyst but an above-average news reader and dramatist. He is overrated as an expert in international affairs--the highest qualifications I can remember him mention is that he's traveled to Rus long ago, and he's been involved in a bureaucracy. Not that he's ever claimed to be a true expert in anything, to be fair. Praise for him is more about the dearth of true analysts and the lack of exposure to them of his fans than about the real value of his analysis. He combines bias for his own worldview with faux perplexity--for melodramatic effect--about the other side's principles. Like pre-recorded messages and elevator music that are played on endless loop, watching him isn't the primary activity, but the background to one. No reason to give his videos full attention or worry if you missed something, because if one waits long enough, he will eventually repeat what he has already said. I wonder how he will exaggerate/embellish his limited discussions with limited numbers of people in Germany--we don't even know where these took place because Mercouris is being coy about his exact location--and fold them into his grand narrative. Because we know that he will. He will surely tell us he "gets the sense" about one thing or another. I hope he enjoyed his trip.

I find him long-winded, logorrheic, far from succinct and extremely repetitive. He's a good news reader, so good that his commentary after reading a news item is little different from it. There are two sides here. Your friend clearly doesn't agree with you, and Mercouris doesn't help by preaching to the choir instead of trying to gain new converts. Your friend probably felt just as offended that you tried to take him to the other side.

There was also a more formal “pre-raphaelite brotherhood” of a particular set of artists and these works tend to be more lush and painterly. (Many good and famous ones are in the Tate Britain). So your observation is not wrong.

I would love to know more about it. I commented on it yesterday and I believe it is a tapestry. It's just lovely!
