The chlorine is going to eat that thing all up. I think it's a really good idea, but considerations of chemical reactions of the treated water should be made. A garage door opener would work a little better, have automatic load sensing, adjustable stops, remote control, and a non metallic cable. But you'd need to have extra space for the motor.

Did you tryed use a cilinder with a coil or a gás piston to return assistence? This one will be fixed under the deck cover.

Interesting design. My only reservation would be that the spring estimates will totally change after adding more weight to the deck (such as when installing the deck boards). The initial spring is what allows the overall system to bend when resting (straight position). I wonder why @Ryan has not added more details.
