Simracing is difficult. Learning how to drive fast takes time, dedication and persistence. Assetto Corsa Competizione is one of the best simulations with highly sensitive aerodynamics that want to be respected. Telemetry, such as motec helps with analyzing car behavior and finding major issues in the car setup or driving style. Special sim racing hardware also helps with becoming better, but certainly is not _the_ solution to your problems. Load cell pedals offer better feel. Stronger but most importantly more detailed force feedback of e.g. direct drive wheels offer more immersive sensations. Though I know and I've seen throughout the years, people with entry level hardware perform on top level.

"Fun" is a major factor when it comes to AMS2. I know that everyone defines fun differently. Things that entertain one bore somebody else to tears. And other simulations can be great fun as well. I love ACC (even though I'm not very good at it), but I'm a huge GT3 enthusiast. But "fun" in ACC works differently for me: I get this feeling when I nail a lap and set a new personal record. But until this happens, the driving feels more like a chore to me. The car seems to fight against you, the track seems to fight against you and the clock that is mercilessly ticking does it as well. If I can overcome all of this, the fun kicks in. In AMS2 however the driving itself just feels like a joy. It doesn't give me the feeling that everything is constantly working against me, but instead I feel like spending time in my "natural habitat". I'm not going to argue which of these two games is the better simulation, for I would never bet against ACC. But for pure enjoyment AMS2 just takes the cake for me, even in its' current state. Can't wait to get my hands on the 1.5.3 release.

I've recently got in to Rfactor 2..in VR. I've never had so much fun in a racing SIM.. especially in the GT3 PACK cars. The car seems so grounded. I love it. Just fyi I have around 40 hours in ams 2 and about 150 hours in AC. I haven't tried ams2 since the new physics it has to be said

This game was flying under my radar, just picked it up and love it for the track selection and actually decent AI. Had a great race at Bathurst against it, and I'm sold. I hope they continue to improve the physics coz it does feel a bit too easy to drive compared to iracing, rf2, ac, etc. It makes me look like I'm a much better driver than I am. Fun tho.

What fascinates me the most is that even not perfect yet, but they are trying to fix EXACTLY what is wrong with tyre model, it was so easy just to slap brakes while cornering to get more grip without any consequences, it was way to forgiving. The other thing that some cars feels a bit weightless, not enough inertia overall, other than that amazing sim.

at least the inertia gets dampened a lot by the tire wall (that's how it feels at least)

Great review. The AI is always a challenge for the developer. They try hard to program in different skill levels for the AI drivers to spread the field over the race duration. You were "battling" in the rear where the AI is the "mid pack". Maybe if you do a short qually and try to pace yourself to qualify in the top 5-8, you will battle with the faster part of the field in the race. Or you can look at the replay of the race and see where the really fast AI drivers choose their lines. Then there is the custom drivers where you can tweak the AI skills yourself. The question, as you said, is if you prefer multi player online competition or single player against AI. That will determine how much importance the AI is for you personally.

I would love your input on this. I feel like the initial turn in grip is very high, l sometimes abuse this taking the corner later than I would and just snap the wheel 45 degrees and usually always it grips or just slightly understeer instead of where in other sims it massively understeers or you lose the rear. Mid corner and out of corner grip is very on point with other sims but turn in grip feels way to high comapare with others. Any ideas on that?

I feel a similar problem with lockups and the tire wear multiplayer... If I make an uncommon mistake I get 10x the flatspot or whatever and my tires are done done instead of a navigable deficit. I want the regular wear vs mistake wear scale in a non linear way so that I am neither overly punished or encouraged to be risking a small lockup relative to the shorter stints.

My biggest complaint with AMS2 has always been that it is not very punishing and feels almost like there really is no fear of 'losing the car' if that makes sense. In RaceRoom for example I am legit scared missing my marks and un settling the car. AC the original is also good at driving at the limit but possibly un settling the car. Do you feel this update helps with that slightly? I legit feel RaceRoom and AC could train you for a real track day event where as AMS2 still feels like a 'game'.

My Steam is stuck at 1.5.0. (currently). I don't know why, but anyway. P1 Gen2 races are very immersive. Sure, AI has, on almost every track, "one corner" flaw / "one corner" advantage, but still, I think it's the best game for offline races. iRacing comes close and that's it. ACC is so bad at offline races, it's comical. If you look at the market objectively, you see that there is a very large playerbase for offline racing. ACC failed so bad it's not worth mentioning. I didn't try GT7 myself, but with Sophy, it seems, that is the only step forward in the last ~15 years. I wish we get a decent AI in every simracing title in the future. Why? If you're 40y+ old, with career and family, you have 30-60min at most every couple of days. If you're in this situation (like myself), you are not racing online (or not as primary sittings in the simrig). You want to set a race quickly, don't have to wait. You start, enjoy, and then close, all in a matter of one hour span. For "Us", there is no simracing title where we can do this. I hope AMS2 or some other solution can cater to "our" needs,....

I don't agree with the rubber tangent you go on there. You're right different tyres will feel different but in the end they're all made of rubber therefore they should behave like they're made of rubber. I don't have to tell you how a tyre works, you know it better than I do, so you'll know that one of the biggest issues with simracing games is that it never feels like you're actually sitting on a piece of rubber, sometimes it's a cinder block and sometimes it's jelly and that's factually wrong in all case scenarios. You ideally can tweak some of the parameters of the tyre but, as long as you can't feel like it's a strip of rubber around an air chamber, all these discussions are pretty much worth nothing, in my opinion. Ultimately in the sim it's not about "realism" as much as what you have to do to be competitive, and that usually means doing stuff that couldn't be farther from real life.
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 8 ай бұрын
in chemical terms the components the rubber is made of can massively differ and is a well kept secret for each manufacturer, carcass design massively differs, tire wall stiffness massively differs - it will result in different tire feel. some will feel more vague, some more crisp. if it was all so clear drivers in F1 wouldn't struggle going from one manufacturer to another or simply some making a soft work while others prefer a medium. how big of a difference I don't know, but this is certainly part of the key to understanding why different irl drivers confirm "realistic feel" for different sims, simply because they drive different cars and tires.
