It definitely wasn't. The cast got a bit crowded in the middle and later seasons, and by then Sheldon was clearly the most popular character with Penny in a close second. So I think Raj got the short end of the stick.

If I may say so, Kunal was one of the most talented actors in the BBT, if one would only look at the way he dances in some of the scenes like when he took 'Howard' to that "elderly" dance class, the way he moves, his rythm, etc., his "playing" instruments plus his overall acting skills instead of just seeing the "token indian" in him then probably he would be more appreciated for his acting skills. He is right up there with the rest of the cast so give him some credit instead of trying to analyse only his accent!

My family saw the episodes where Raj made fun of the American accent and we assumed that he had been faking his Indian accent. Very cool to see that we were wrong. Looks like such an awesome guy!

Glad for Raj the character arc completed nicely he realized he does not need to be insecure and the finale to the Big Bang Theory was also good, closed the show on a happy note with fan expectations fulfilled. Also glad for the actor, he seems to have gotten the best deal relationship-wise in real life even if Raj was single at the end of the show.

Nope. Boman Irani has a Bombay accent. Kunal Nayyar has a Delhi accent. It's very easy to tell the difference if you listen closely.

He was born in Hounslow, near Heathrow Airport, in the UK but moved to India soon after that's why he has an Indian accent, you will find that many like Kunal who were born in and live in the UK have Indian accents if they speak an Indian language at home likewise those who speak mainly English don't have an Indian accent, that goes for any other country..
