Big barge, The Hercules 3. One of the fastest barges for log dumps. Usually 35-40 minutes for a dump ! Wasn't a clean dump tho, that's for sure! #bargedump #forestry #logging #canada #seaspan #ocean #booming #work #bargedumps. #forestryworkers #hercules #loadedbarge #dump #bcloggers #bclogging #tugboats #tugs #tug #tugboat #hugetugboat #barge #barges #bargelife #bargeunloading #cranes #craneservice #bcforestry #cool #awesome #wow #amazing #howto #how

After dumping like that there will be a couple smaller tugs with a long string of boomsticks to encircle the load. They will tow the bag off to the side and pull apart the clumps ( you have to really know what you are doing, the bundles can pop up unexpectedly ) and make smaller bags to tow to the mill. They will also try to pull any remaining bundles and logs off the deck or bring in the barge loaders to swing them off with the4 cranes. A pain but all part of the job.

They are floated to the nearby lumber mill up the inlet. This is actually a practice that predates Canada's existence for centuries and is still very efficient. Cute little pusher tug boats shepherd and nudge the logs towards the mills intake.conveyor incline way.

Not entirely true. That is probably a pulp mill in the backround. They usually can export only from private lands and the west coast of the island. I would like to see more small mills. On the North Island we have been sending logs south to Vancouver and Nanaimo for almost a hundred years!
