We got to chase Big Boy from Cheyenne to Laramie on 6/30/24. We caught him at a crossing gate on Harriman Road where they stopped for a few minutes.
Big Boy was running without any diesel assistance.

Nothing like the sound of an engine stating to roll. That thing reeks of power, majesty, an engineering marvel built in the days of paper drawings and slide rules.

@@coryhoover01 later on they added a diesel.....doubt it was for the ptc either.

I am told that they have upgraded the electrical system to handle any electric load, and the additional cars, which may be weighted, can assist with dynamic braking. So with that and PTC, she doesn't really need a diesel. Sure looks better without one.
