Throw a thin blanket between your rain fly and screen of the tent and it'll act like insulation and you can use the even smaller heater buddy to get your tent to over 100 in freezing temps.

To be fair. The portable Buddy already heated up the tent. You should have let the temperature go back down inside the tent.

It's possible the Portable Buddy would work for you but I like to have my Big Buddy on colder camping trips. I've been in my Kodiak Canvas tent with the Big Buddy heater in temps down to 12 degrees at night and it still worked well. I'll be testing it out more this winter plus comparing it to the Camp Chef Alpine stove to see what I like better. Let me know if you have any other experiences with it and or find something you like better. Rick

The big buddy is too much for a RV. It’s great for construction sites. The little buddy with a 20lb tank is perfect for 20-30 degree weather. If you live where temperatures range. the filter is recommended to keep your heater from breaking but you don’t need it to make it work (for poor people who are reading this). You can also use a grate and cook off them

@@kro9703Why do you think contaminants are different just because of tank size? Propane is propane my guy, all of it has an oil-based additive that adds the distinct smell. 1 lb bottles included. Do you use a filter with the small bottles too? It's the leeching of oil from the rubber lines under high pressure that cause issues, not the fuel supply. Mr. Heater themselves say it is safe to use the F273704 hose without a filter. It does not leech under high pressure. For the big buddy you can also use the low pressure quick connect with a remote regulator. Where are you going to use the F276163 filter in that setup? Are you going to Jerry-rig with adapters between the POL fittings? Doesn't make sense.

Can this one be used indoor without having a window opened? Is it safe?
@mikenrickoutdoors
@mikenrickoutdoors 8 ай бұрын
You will see a lot of warnings not to do that but I have seen many tests showing they don't put off gas that could kill you. The bigger issue is the oxygen will be depleted so I would recommend having an O2 and Carbon Monoxide detector on when using it and then have a window cracked. Now, Mike and I use ours all the time in his RV and in my tent. Sometimes we don't have any windows open when using them but we do have the O2 sensors with us. It's your call on operating them, but we haven't had any issues in enclosed environments. We're still alive. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@mikenrickoutdoors
@mikenrickoutdoors 6 ай бұрын
This is something I have seen tested and have tested myself, but I will not give an "official" guidance on it. I have seen tests completed showing the effectiveness of not releasing gas, but the bigger issues is how much oxygen is available for you in a completely closed environment. Personally, I would always have one or two small vents letting air in and then use a CO2/O2 sensor to be safe. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick

How to handle carbon dioxide
@mikenrickoutdoors
@mikenrickoutdoors 8 ай бұрын
We have CO and O2 detectors with us when we use these, plus we keep a window cracked open to allow additional oxygen in and have vents at the top of the tent or trailer to also help with venting. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@g-whiz286
@g-whiz286 8 ай бұрын
Carbon dioxide and water are the two primary compounds produced from propane combustion. Of course, oxygen is also used to produce these compounds. That is why these heaters are outfitted with a low oxygen shutdown. This serves two purposes. It shuts off the heater before it can produce carbon monoxide (a result of incomplete combustion) and ensures enough oxygen is left in the space for you to breath.
