James, I feel like its a winner and hopefully this is going to be a damn good running engine. As I said before, working out on the southeast islands of alaska, I too encountered this same parody of problems using beer boxes for gasket material, praying the cam followers were right as all I could go on was hearsay from other guys who did them all day long. This was long before internet or any form of shipping that come close to making sense. I am not sure just where you are at on most of this right now, as I have went to the ******* hospital for my last time ever. I am on first name basis with a good many nurses but they are feeling the pain of many they doctor as their hands are tied with the government regs and how much can be done. Doctors will not stand up or take any chances of ruining their careers by helping with pain. I am at the point of just going outside in the cold and let it happen. Like you fighting this engine, I too am so dang tired of being in the positions I made happen in my poor decision processes. Enough on my issues.... Lets just let it dig some power from the many tries and see her scream bloody hell from a free whining turbo setting on 2250 RPM's going for it! I do fully believe in yer trying this hard and should it not..... alcohol might just feel good with a 454 placing just a few more ounce of weight to her carcass.... I really think ya did just fine.... Oh, never try and find out about yer ancestry as I just did that to find out who I am and who I was related to.... Not the answers I wanted to hear.

One thing I can say Brother you don’t quit get that Motor running you are a good mechanic you will get it figured out be safe safe travels on the airplane captain

Nice job James. It's also really nice having a rebuildable engine without having to do tons of extra machine work, especially the bores and the rotating assembly. Not all engines are that rebuildable even if they do have replacement parts available. :P

The good thing about rebuilds and over hauling a motor is when you can always use some older parts,, not like the newer computerized componets. And watching others do the work. Hey bud i just bought 88 international 9370 eagle got a 400 big cam cummings. She has miles on her. Runs like a sewing machine was a tow truck. The guy bought it for the wrecker sold me the truck for 2 grand. This is my first truck. I am a school bus diesel mechanic. I want to rebuild the 400 big cam down the road. So far prevous owners did head gaskets head bolts(due to leak) new radiator(started leaking after repairs lol) belts/hoses. It needs work no not perty. She is a long double frame. Want to upgrade to a baged rear suspension from a newer truck. Any pointers on these engines. I have all maintenance records since new!! Alot of work it needs but i am able and have acess to big truck salvage yards in my area. Want to pull flat bed low boy and refer. My dream to start my trucking company. Ive already cdl insurance llc extra. Just im going to take my time amd upgrade suspension and brakes engine amd trans. N14 air to air intake swap on a 400 big cam?? Any other mods especially fuel milage horse power. Got a new turbo already on it new tires all the way around!!

"Crack Cover", yes, thank you! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That did seem like a lot of effort to get the cam journals through the bearings, then again, the bearings were not oiled, but were greased, and grease is much thicker and more resistant than oil. Plus, being new bearings, they would have minimum clearance. Looking forward to seeing this engine start and hoping that it doesn't spin that cam bearing again or bend some push rods.

Hey james im not real up to speed with this ,but have you changed the cam? If so did you put the same part number and cam and keyway key back in? And did you put the same cam boxes back to the same location? Just asking mate because that box timming is very important.

Did you loctite the new cam bearings in? Never seen a cam go in that tight.
