Girl, I feel this to my core. I am right there with you. Especially in the realms of science and history. I am Christian through and through. Ain’t nobody moving me off Jesus but I do feel that Christian curricula can often times come across as elitist 😬 To just dismiss other peoples, cultures and religions because they don’t believe as we do? Nah. That’s the opposite of love. Another fantastic video! Thanks Brittany 😊

Thank you for this video! I agree 100%. We are believers too, but go the secular route because curriculum is usually more inclusive and accepting of diversity. I’ve found most Christian curriculum to be somewhere between so-so and incredibly problematic. It’s exciting and encouraging that the homeschool community is becoming more diverse. I hope more publishers will recognize that when creating new curriculum.

This was great! I want my kids to know what is out in their world so that they can prepare to hold firm to their Faith when they are challenged. I don't want them in a bubble and we should be teaching them about the Bible not a curriculum. :) Thank you for this ❣

I love this!! And I couldn't agree more with your statements. I was raised in faith and i got my bubble popped when I realised other cultures had different beliefs to which I was boxed into. Raising our kiddos with genuine love and diversity is more helpful to as they become adults ❤

I enjoyed hearing your perspective. For me it’s the opposite. I want a strong, Christian foundation in our homeschool. We do discuss secular beliefs as well like evolution and we are Latino so they are aware of different cultures but I want God to be front and center in our homeschool. Children are exposed to a secular world views in pretty much everything; cartoons, movies, commercials, regular music, billboards etc. It seems in this current state of the world especially, as Christian’s we really need to be diligent in raising our babies in the faith.

I love your perspective. How interesting. I'm completely opposite from you and pulled my children from public school because in Louisiana, they force Christian/conservative views into public classrooms. My children were being made to stand up and pray to Christian God every day over the intercom and thier recess was taken away if they didn't want to. They also didn't teach evolution, sex Ed, and they sent home some homework about the civil war where the teachers where trying to assert that the war had nothing to do with slaves actually 😅 slaves liked being slaves and were better for it. That was crazy to me. I also went to a veterans day program there and listened to the principle tell a bunch of little kids that Donald Trump was our president and our country was at war with the democrats. AT A VETERANS DAY PROGRAM.😂 it wasnt a Qanon program, it was at public school and she was the principal telling that to 1st to 4th graders.😅 Don't get me wrong, we love Jesus. I just think it shines a light on how the *Christian bubble* can be a real detriment to children and makes for an adult that has a hard time adapting to the melting pot that is our beautiful nation. Jesus's teachings are paramount, and alone they don't equate to a well rounded, functional education. I like that you're doing what makes sense to you though. ❤

@@Jennifer-zb4dqeverything you just said is true lol idk why you find truth hard to believe. Now why as a parent do you think the school should teach Sex Ed?
@caecal2012

@trking92 true or not is irrelevant our country is founded on separation of church and state the reason schools lean towards democracy is purely political while republican is conservative which is often rooted in religion. This is an observation vs a fact or personal belief system.

Totally agree with all that you've said. As a Jamaican homeschooler, I find that a lot of Christian curricula can be problematic, especially with history. Here, we are taught history from a neutral perspective since our country tries to embrace our motto of "Out of Many, One People". We are a country that is predominantly Christian, but all faiths/denominations/religions are here, and you are free to practice. The curriculum content as it relates to the Caribbean tends to focus on slavery and our people are so diverse and there are so many credible sources that can be used that would give a better picture. Nevertheless, I focus on critical thinking and teach my children age appropriate content, and then try to sprinkle a moral compass. Personally, I use a mix of Christian and secular, but I have to do a lot of research. I think you are on the right track. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes. Often times Christian History and Science curricula are found to be lacking. There are some things, we shouldn't be neutral on even more so because we are Christian. We use a mix of Christian and secular curricula in our home. Thankfully as homeschoolers, we can pick and choose parts of different resources to use.

It is soooooo refreshing to hear this from another homeschool mom. I have a friend who is in her last couple of years of homeschooling & she feels the same but she is the only person I know that feels this way. I am a mom of a 4 yo & a 20 mo so I am only just now starting my journey. I have a feeling I am going to have a lot of unpopular opinions in the homeschooling community in my area. HA.

@@brittanyolga thank you, we have been using Sonlight but I want to make sure that the curriculum we choose is teaching history from a neutral stand point and nothing else. I understand religion is definitely a large part of history but I dont want my curriculum to misrepresent the roles religion took within our history if that makes sense.

Ive had the inverse! 😅. I am technically secular but the way some secular programs do history and science is not good in my opinion. It over corrects, belittles, and treats theories as facts. So I’d rather start from the Christian perspective and discuss over to where I believe. Neutral seems to be a sweet spot for history for me. I’ve always added in different cultures into my read alouds since my child was little. I am mixed race and lived in many other countries so it just comes naturally.

Yeah it is really sad to see all the really destructive stuff that is out there. I have a guilty pleasure watching this hardcore Christian homeschoolers and many things are really wild like textbooks that tell kids that everything other than (white) Christianity is demonic and inferior. That God is behind everything and the only power that is guiding the course of human history. Looking on their free samples really is a substitute for a horror movie.

I’m really confused why you continue to say that you don’t want her to be biased she is Christian you are Christian it’s the truth. Are you trying to let her choose her own religion as a Christianity is not the truth I’m kind of confused. This will be my first year homeschooling and that is why I feel most of us Christians pull our kids from school so that they don’t learn from a secular person or worldview. I think throughout their experience in life, they will meet other people in the future that do have different world views, but why bring confusion to them, which is what we struggle with when we put our kids into the system and let them teach their worldview, which is not our truth -THE truth.
@brittanyolga
@brittanyolga 11 ай бұрын
I think this video has brought about alot of confusion for my subscribers and audience. We are a family of faith and above all we prioritize God being the center of our home. Using Secular and Neutral Curriculums does not eliminate God in my home and our school. Using Secular and Neutral curriculum allows me to teach my daughter other perspectives at home in a safe environment instead of allowing her to be introduced to this outside of the home when she has graduated without the guidance of her family. My goal is for my children to understand and know their beliefs and faith while also having kindness, empathy, and compassion for those who may think and believe differently from them.

I think its great u wanna share both sides of things like evolution snd creationism. Kids do need to know how to navigate a world where majority believes in evolution or other non biblical views. But as a parent and why we personally chose to homeschool is to be able to teach a biblical worldview and to teach that it's the right view. I dont need all subjects to be Christian like math for instance.

For some reason I’m a Christian and I’ve never been interested in Christian curriculum I always thought about my faith as something we do separately .. I don’t feel it has to be in every example and every assignment .. it’s part of how we live treat each other and who we are .. if anything most of them are outdated and aren’t diverse and multicultural enough

It's really important to have a Biblical worldview as a Christian, in fact, I have a strong conviction for apologetics, so from that perspective I agree that all ideas should be exposed and critically thought about and consider what God says. Anything that is not belief in the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross for the remission of sins is vanity - so the Truth is superior to all the other pagan and false religions. As a sister in Christ I would just caution you not to be deceived in these last days. Ecuminism is not a good thing. Also, you might be interested in Generations if you haven't heard of them. They are Christian, but do a deep dive into Christianity's influence around the world.
