I think the entire obstruction and interference craze is effing ridiculous With that said the way the asshats who make the rules have spelled out the rules just standing with your foot in front of the base for a millisecond will get you an obstruction call. Just like every collision where a runner puts their hands up to protect themselves or tucks their chin to do the same is going to get nailed with “ malicious contact”. Wimps have ruined every game they get their paws on

Actually, the fielder does not have the right to obstruct the path of the runner when she does not have the ball. Doesn't matter if the path of the throw takes her into the path of the runner, the runner has "right of way" except when it is a batted ball (and this was a fielded ball/throw), unless the fielder has the ball in their possession.

Agree to a point but just seems odd the runner with the helmet leaves the field then laughing at the end, looks like she bulldogged 2nd baser on purpose at that point. If she was hurt that bad to leave the base i doubt she would be laughing about it

Call should just be safe at 2nd. Why the need for the obstruction call? Infielder had the ball and was laying a tag on the runner. Ball popped out on the tag. Runner is safe.

I hate these interference/obstruction calls. She was clearly making the catch not just standing in front of the bag!!! Is she suppose to just not catch the ball if it might bring her in front of the runner?

As a shortstop or second baseman you should know to stand on the outfield side of the bag with your glove closet to the bag. when you see the ball isn't coming straight to you you're supposed to leave the base but not run into the runner.

The two comments above is why I stopped watching or caring about baseball and softball years ago. Very few playing the game today have any backbone. Baseball used to be a contact sport. I don’t insinuate violence in any form but good ole fashioned competition. Too many snowflakes calling themselves ball players today.

No reason to call obstruction. If there was obstruction, She was safe at second as the ball came out after it occurred and before she reached 2nd. Therefore, your not awarding her 3rd as it happens prior to 2nd. Shoulda been a no call.

That is an obstruction because before the fielder had the ball she was already on the base line. Only time a fielder can be on the baseline is when they have had the ball for more than a second

Absolutely no obstruction. Player with the ball, making a play can block the base if they choose to do so. This is the result often times. That was a perfect throw from the outfield. Had she held on to the ball the runner would have been out

She caught the ball and stepped to the left of the bag out of the runners path. The runner, instead of sliding in straight, actually shifted into the path of the defender as she began her slide. And the fact that the defender ended up 4 feet away from the bag mean the runners did it intentionally.

Many times, umpires make the obstruction call when all you got is 2 bodies in the same place at the same time. The 2nd baseman had a right to put a tag on the batter-runner. The throw put her in harms way.

The rules I learned in softball, is that a runner is not allowed to bowl over a defensive player. This runner made no attempt to avoid the player at the bag. The runner can see the ball coming. The runner has an excellent view of the impending close play but makes no attempt to avoid the collision. I say runner out.

There's no instruction at all because there was a play being made at second base to get on the runner going to second base so either the runs out or the run is safe is the ball was dropped

That was no slide to avoid being tagged out. That appeared to be more of a double play takeout slide, with bad intentions. She just didn't anticipate that little gal absorbing her contact like a brick wall.
