A band so young and so new should NEVER have sounded so good, so seasoned, and so powerful at such an early stage of their career. From beginning to the end, they gave their best. Thank you for the post. This was brilliant.

Stuart was the EDGE before "this is the Edge" (u2). No disrespect to u2, but Stuart was an awesome unsung guitarist.

Stuart was an incredible guitarist, even in his beginning with the Skids. The Edge wasn't a very good guitarist in the beginning, during "Boy" and "October," especially. Certainly not up to Stuart's or Bruce's ability.

The Edge credits him as an influence so would be the first to admit this.

Don't know if they were better than The Police, certainly in the same league, and just as talented. The Police could certainly rip up a crowd, Stuart seems to have that talent as well.

are you 100 percent sure this was there first live performance, i remember seeing them play a small festival, they had a moat in front of them, it possibly was the summer of 1982. from that moment i was hooked. Nicko.if i am wrong i am sorry.

Nicholas Gerrard hi mate this was 100% their first live TV performance, Dec '82. The gig you are thinking about is probably Sefton Park in Liverpool which was 1983. 😊

@phlser oh i bet they werent happy at all :), i remember SOD, mediocre at best.....but then again, they did it many times to many "Great" bands, notably supporting Bowie on the Glass Spider tour i think.....blew him out of the water too. :). sheer class...i love how they arent "fully formed" as we know them now....look for stuff from the Peppermint lounge DVD. first time they were filmed at all i think, and Mark falls off his Drum seat..raw, hungry...just pure class "jigahtshikaraha"
