I don't think I'd ever heard this original version of Raw before with both BDK & KGR. I'm not going to compare one person in the uppermost echelon in talent with another, but I have to completely agree with your general sentiment. Back when I was super into hip hop (1988-1994), I had all 3 of KGR's first 3 albums and it was obvious to me that he was being overlooked. Even within the Juice Crew, you had The Queen (and really only female star) Roxanne Shante', you had The King, BDK, you had the co-pioneer along with Shante, MC Shan (although Marley Marl had predecessors to Shan and Shante under his wing, those two eclipsed any of them, and they were the first of the "Juice Crew All Stars"), and in addition to Shante, Shan and BDK, you also had Biz Markie who got over mainly on comedy, although he was also talented, yes. So, it was easy to get lost in all those personalities. And then you had others who took longer to develop or came later and were stars in their own right such as GrandDaddy IU, Tragedy (Intelligent Hoodlum), Masta Ace (all of whose original albums I used to have, as well). So, it was hard to break out of that pack. In terms of actual throw-down ability, the only one back then in that bunch (that I know of) who was his equal or superior was BDK, and perhaps a little later on, GrandDaddy IU. Part of what might have worked against KGR is that he wasn't as conventionally marketable as Kane was (Kane was so freakin' handsome and smooth/slick), and he also projected a little more of a "Gangster" feel, too, which wasn't "the thing" just yet in the late 80s and very early 90s. Had he come out a few years later, and also not been lost in the Juice Crew Mix, he might have gotten bigger earlier. Also, I don't know how his talent evolved after "Live and Let Die", which I'm sure it did, but then again Kane's talent evolved, too (as did Rakim's). They all stepped up their game in their career multiple times, if not constantly. Anyway...yeah, KGR was great. And yes, "Talk Like Sex" (which, of course, S&P sampled in the improved remix of "Let's Talk About Sex"), and its successor "FUM" on the next album, were very guilty pleasures of mine back in the day - not exactly good messages, but in terms of wit and lyricism and delivery, those songs were all that.

Rakim flow is better than Kool G Rap flow,,,Rakim invented flow,,,,real talk and facts

@@vernonjohnson1198 who has the best flow is a debate that can go on for years, I'm specifically talking about how g raps flips his words and the speed that he does it at, IT IS specifically unique and what sets him apart from the pack even amongst the greatest, thats my point, if u still sayin ain't so cool or whatever but rakim didn't make his bones on rapid fire delivery, Rakim's style was more thought provoking than g rap.

The sounds of 80s & 90s Hip-Hop was largely affected by the socio-political climates & audio technology of the time. While most Underground artists these days are trying to go in a new directions through use of abstract rhyming & psychedelic beats, many still have tracks that pay tribute to the origins of Hip-Hop, with traditional sample-based songs. Check out 'The Loyalists' , they're fond of a DJ Premier & Pete Rock style of production.
