When he cries the first night in the hotel, it was when I realized what a phenomenal actor he is.

A wonderful main stream movie with some very disturbing issues if you think about it...which most people don't. All I am saying is that Josh will now have some very unrealistic expectations concerning money, realistic employment, and dating in high school. Thank you for posting this Mr. MEF!

Agreed, now that Josh is a teenager again, he'll have to go through traditional schooling, and probably won't take his parents or teachers seriously anymore. By the time he gets back to adulthood, he won't have the innocence that helped him out the first time, plus his mum might start to notice that he resembles his alleged kidnapper...

Obviously I haven’t watched this movie enough, because my hyper-observant self never realized that normal age Josh is portrayed by David Moscow. I have no idea how I didn’t put that together. He looks exactly like his teen (was Davey in Newsies) and his adult self (a-hole music producer in Honey). A real gem from Tom’s career. But super problematic too. I know it was the 1980s and kids in movie were often treated like adults, but I really have an issue with Josh, who spends the movie acting his age, knocking boots with his adult co-worker and doesn’t seem to think it’s wrong, or that she isn’t weirded out when the truth is revealed. Funny as always, Jeb.

Now that I'm older, I relate more to Mrs Baskin, and can resonate with her fear that Josh has been kidnapped. The scene were she breaks down crying over the phone always breaks my heart. Josh will have a difficult time explaining where he went for six weeks. In addition, she'll eventually realise that her adult son looks like his supposed kidnapper...

My absolute favourite 80's movie of all time. Tom Hanks was incredibly convincing as a preteen boy trapped in an adult boy, and certainly deserved his first Oscar nomination. The piano scene with Robert Loggia was also very memorable, and they did all their own playing, without the need for stunt doubles. 🎹

In my neck of the woods, it's the Mountain Heritage Festival. We also have the Honey Festival and Black Gold Festival.

This film can be troubling if you think about it too much (not recommended), but it nails that shadowland between child and young adulthood so well in spots. And for all Hanks's maturity as an actor on display, Billy steals the show right out from under Josh whenever he's on screen.

Jeb you could do 13 going on 30 next. It has a similar premise.

Elizabeth Perkins was gorgeous in this movie, she reminds me of an older Millie Bobby Brown. I also loved Josh and Billy's friendship, and how Billy loyally tries to restore Josh to normal, despite their brief falling out.

Tom Hanks doesn't invent role-playing games in this movie. They were already invented when Hanks starred in "Mazes and Monsters".

For some reason when Jeb talks about titties multiple times, it doesn’t feel objectifying it feels like genuine appreciation and care for the titties and I love it 😂 Also would love to see the Blues Brother or Animal House (especially since we had the references in your Ghostbusters and Raiders videos :) )

I've always wondered about the legal ramifications of this movie. Josh's mom thinks he got kidnapped for what, like, half a year? How much money would the police waste on that manhunt? Actually, that's a pretty good and hilarious thing to have happen. Nevermind
