The Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card has received a new, “all-metal” design, BUT…
IT’S NOT ALL METAL!
It’s still the plastic-metal hybrid (i.e. a metal core with a plastic back), though it does have more metal than it used to.
The old, legacy Ritz-Carlton Credit card was a true, all-metal credit card and weighed 28g.
When it was discontinued to new applicants, it was downgraded to the plastic-metal hybrid design and weighed 13g.
And now, it’s keeping the same plastic-metal hybrid construction, but weighs 17g (roughly the same as the Amex Platinum Card, Capital One Venture X, and the latest version of the Chase Sapphire Reserve).
That said, none of the benefits are changing.
It still maintains the:
- Rewards Structure of:
6X Marriott Hotels
3X Dining / Car Rentals / Airline Purchases
2X Other rewards structure
- $300 Annual Travel Credit for qualifying air incidental purchases like seat upgrades, baggage fees, and preferred lounge passes
- 3 Club Level Upgrades each year on paid stays of up to 7 nights (terms apply)
- Automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status
- 15 Elite Night Credits per year
- And more
While the Ritz Carlton Credit Card is still discontinued to new applicants, you can still get it via product change from the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless or Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful if you've had one of those for at least 1 year with a credit limit of $10,000.

Contactless pay may not work if the card is fully covered by metal. To be fair, the new card is much heavier than the previous one.

@@qianglin6245 - Correct. I'm just not a user of contactless / 'tap to pay' much. I'd much rather use a mobile wallet on my phone and not have to carry the physical card at all. Regardless, the marketing message is false.

I recently got the new card, and I noticed that the finish on the front sort of has an orange peel, whereas the previous full hybrid card didn’t. I still love the card, though Chase removing the Priority Pass Restaurant Credit makes it feel that the days of endless rewards are over

Mark, the all-metal old RC card was nice for sure, but there was no tap functionality. The new sandwich card fixed this problem and it is more practical.

Correct. If I'm tapping to pay, then I'm almost always using a mobile wallet via phone as I prefer fewer things to carry. I realize some may prefer otherwise, though.

@@MarkReese I think some people may prefer to use a physical card even though they have set up Apple Pay, because of the ‘metal’ aspect. The more exclusive the card is (the Centurion card… and this RC card maybe?), the more they like to showcase it physically. Personally I got a few compliments on some of my pretty & unique cards, which made me feel great. It happened when I handed over my card for payment.

Bro, I was so confused when I got the new Ritz card that I had forgotten about the news of going back to metal bc I honestly couldn't tell, now I am sorry I got rid of the original metal card from back in 1015. It was the one card that got the MOST "wow factor" more than the AMEXP when I used it. I had to CAREFULLY compare this "2024 metal card" to the card I already had bc as you said, it was less difference, and more smoke and mirrors. I was disappointed.

Production wise it was easier for them to practically make all chase metal cards similar grams with same metal stock. Add that with branding and marketing = profits

Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see full metal cards come back, namely due to the fact all cards are now issued with contactless functionality, which is not possible without at least a plastic sandwich on the backside for the NFC antenna.

Great video, however the original all metal Ritz card was actually Visa Signature, not Infinite. The older one you have is an update to that original card from JPM, that added new Infinite benefits.

I just got the boundless for the 5 free nights but considering getting the Ritz card after year 1. Has it been pretty easy for you to get the $300 airline credit each year? That is the only concern that I have

If you normally spend on incidental airline purchases, it's very easy to get the credit. If you don't normally spend on those things, then you may not be able to use it.

I totally agree with you in their wording. But, I’m not understanding the random surprise “metal” swap that Chase did. I would think this cost Chase money to replace all Ritz-Carlton card owners for material and mailing. 🤔

Yep I'd think costs would be higher, too. Not sure why they did it. Perhaps to get people to use it more? I've adopted mobile wallets pretty heavily so it wouldn't make a difference to me.

Might a little bit disappointing, but partial metal is better than no metal at all. I have to wait until this October to change product from current Marriott Bonvoy. Hope chase doesn’t change anything worse soon.

The Sapphire Lounge in LGA alllowed me in, even though my Ritz-Carlton card is not 100% metal 😊. I hope the Maui Ritz-Carlton will still let me in there also.

Sebby did a video on the new metal RC. He mentioned something that makes sense. Why spend the money to reintroduce the card if Chase and Marriott wasn't going to upgrade the card? I think upgrades are coming and an increased annual fee.

Thank you for this. I felt cheated and mislead when my card came. I still have my original metal card too. What do we need to do to get them upgrade the elite status to platinum? Increasing the additional nights would be nice too but I rather the status.

I have a bunch of these 18 gram hybrid cards already, so I was really hoping that this would be like the old, full metal card because I do not have anything like that in my collection. Alas, looks like it'll be just like the rest of them, probably because the full metal - I think - would be without contactless payment, and thus deemed too hard to use. I'd gladly give that up, personally, because it's such a cool concept, but it is what it is. Oh well...

11:34 To answer this specific question I think your just showing off because you know I wanted this card but didn’t get it because instead I choose to prioritize getting the Capital One duo before I apply for one of the Marriott cards I’d have to keep for a year before product changing to the Ritz🤣. Their wording was poor/misleading for sure. I’d still rather have a partially plastic card so it can feature NFC. Also I don’t want a card that’s any heavier than the platinum; that’s heavy enough already.

I had the same frustration with the very cheap , ordinary cheesy packing that my Amex Delta Boeing 747 card( it was beautiful) came in , considering all their run-up hype and supposedly limited number run: and told them such. Always ❤ the drop test.

I'd wish they would do it like american express gold or platinum where the front of the card (the side with your name on it) is metal, and the back of the card (where the card number is) is plastic. So there's only 2 layers to the card vs 3 with the metal piece in the middle like the chase sapphire and ritz carlton.
