Big Freight Train Stops In Front Of Me And Blocks Crossing! UP SD70AH Tanker Train Meets CSX Train! Plus a Big 2 1/2 mile long CSX Train With an overhead view! And More!
The eastbound CSX double stack train that you caught from the Center Road overpass in Sheridan, New York going slow because the LORAM shoulder ballast cleaner was working up ahead of the CSX train? The day that you caught CSX train #364 at the Berry Road crossing when it had to slow down, stop and then proceed on track #2 there were a lot of interesting cars on the train. The first interesting freight car that caught my attention was a green Chicago & North Western boxcar which still had a CNW reporting mark. A little later I saw was a former Wisconsin Central car with non-Wisconsin Central reporting marks. There was a former Pan Am Railways box car with MEC reporting marks. There was a Norfolk & Western 2 bay covered hopper car with NW reporting marks. Shortly after the NW covered hopper there was a large Southern Railroad covered hopper with SOU reporting marks and a faded SOUTHERN wording on the side of the car. Thank you for documenting these trains especially CSX train #364 with all those fallen flag cars.

A few months ago I was Railfanning a UP intermodal train at Kirkwood Missouri and saw UP 1983 or Western Pacific as a mid dpu and that was the only the second train, the first train had 4 train engines, 2 in the front and 2 mid dpus and when I left McDonald's that is when it came. Slow as heck going over the Crossing. When the DPUs passed that is when it started going faster, and that day was the first time seeing a heritage unit in person.

Ha! That first CSX loco needs a tune up - a bit of excess smoke :) Agreed - need more DPU's! A nice pair of ACe's and UP meets CSX at speed!! I always enjoy the overheads - nice sound of power! Sounds like some track priority between the two CSX trains. They're so long anymore you can't tell if they went into emergency or are waiting for a track :)

Don't confuse the term DPU with locomotive power in the middle or end from decades ago. Entirely different concept. Think of a DPU as a remote controlled unit integrally linked via computer to the head end of the train. In past times pusher or helper locomotives were usually manned and assisted trains in climbing hills or moving excessive tonnage via verbal communication from the cabs. Not so with modern DPU

We had trouble with trains stopping on us, too. If you look closely, most cars have a "built on" date somewhere on the side (if it isn't painted over). At 28:40 you can see a small, gray, rectangle just before that square label and right behind the 92-ft marking. That is a computer-readable tag so railroads can keep up with what cars are where.
