The Japanese consonant that causes confusion as to whether it an L or an R is actually a combination of both vocal sounds, and it's almost the exact same sound as the Spanish R ("err-ay"), with the single tongue roll, that's why she had no problem pronouncing his name the Japanese way. I too found it odd that she was pronouncing it the Americanized way here.

yeah I've looked at some other behind the scenes voice cast. It is interesting too see the real ppl have striking resemblance to characters

The characters are given certain traits from their voice actors. It's easy because, during these voice recordings, they watch the actors faces and incorporate their expressions/ quirks. If you look at other movies made by Disney animation and Pixar, you'll notice (especially in Wreck it Ralph and Frozen.)
