This comment reminds me of the Sims 4 Cats and Dogs rags to riches series James did a few years ago where he built around this one stupid tree on the lot and everyone was going crazy because of it 🤭

I really like that senior-care-center down there. Some nice paths around it, along the water, down to the restaurant and the ice-cream-parlor would be great for the families to take their grandparents out for a walk. And also with it (and also the soon-to-be-national-park nearby) the bus makes a lot more sense - maybe the old folks want to take a ride down to the rail-museum, which they remember from back in the days, when the railroads went along that way ... I think making up such little stories is what I love most about cities: skylines.

While he was building the fences I was making up all kinda of stories about rivalries between the neighbours, fighting over the fence placement xD

You could make a pedestrian path that looks like an old rail road going to that little island, and make the island into a park. Then that would tie into the railroad museum

James, could you build a golfcourse near the elderly facility and the bigger homes? It could be a park to increase the land value, and it makes sense to be in that area with the nicer buildings/retirement center.

Ironically the big house area IRL would almost certianly have no services nearby. Maybe a dock and bait shop, on it own road, but I imaged them to be very expensive waterfront estates where you have to drive far to get to a store.

I think it might be cool if you had some abandoned or disused stuff in these maps, like some old bridge parapets where a railway bridge used to be, something like that. They’re fairly common IRL when a railway is realigned. Edit - perfect position for one would be the water behind the railway museum, you could make it look like the line used to run right through the centre, over the river and then the new station and bridge were built so the old one became the museum and the bridge was removed.

Can we have some little rural towns along a couple of the river ways, mainly connected by ferries and old winding country roads.
@paulb17162 жыл бұрын
My suggestion is to start creating high density areas to bring up the population and have a town centre. Right now, it's just one sprawling suburb with no real central point.
@clutterinparadise88392 жыл бұрын
I LOVE this idea. I, too, am ready for some major additions of many high-density apartments and condensed city areas with a downtown feel. This would go well with the future addition of a more defined and more dense industrial area that he mentioned wanting to do soon.

On the post office view Green streets show coverage. Blue buildings show they've been served recently and don't need service and red houses that need service but they turn blue as post vans get to them. So generally so long long as your streets are all green you're fine. Especially in low density.

Really loving this series, the level of detail and the fact that you're not afraid to readjust parts of the city until you're happy with them is really wonderful! I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you needed to get a mod to unlock the ferry stop street (such as the "Touch This" Mod), I believe there is an "Unlock Segment" option in the Network Multitool that you already have installed which does the same function.

as far as i’m aware, adding extra services when you’re really far away from the closest one of that service is good, because the other services will take a really long time to get there, leading to larger fires and lower land value.

One interesting idea I have for the series as the city grows is building one or two bus lines that use the mini buses from the Vehicles of the World DLC. Like a mini bus line that would run from the University to the nearby train station or to the shops.
@user-lp9sm3tc8c2 жыл бұрын
I've fallen behind and I don't know if you backread comments, but I'm wondering if you've noticed how you've australian-ified the city? I love how you just naturally add features that are very prevelent in aussie cities (as well as the obvious assests like woolies and bunnings). like, this is fully unintentional but this city so far has so many similarities to the goldie, where i'm from. everything from the identical houses near the uni, the hospital next to the uni, the low lying loosely gridded housing, the few very straight main roads coming off the highway. even the little town across the river is very accurate to the little towns on the northern gc like Steiglitz. I know these features are very prominent in a lot of eastern seaboard satellite cities, like Newcastle/Woolongong/Sunshine Coast so it's really cool to see how you've transferred, seemingly unintentional, aussie features into the build
@cristinamunoz3642 жыл бұрын
Once you zone the nature park bit, won't the land value for those houses automatically go up?

Hi James! I love your city, in real life a town like this would easily become a tourist trap! I love the connectivity without it being a boring grid. The open space you reserved for a campus.. I'm afraid it wouldn't fit. Not just for lack of space, but also I'm not sure if this is the vibe. But maybe that's just me. I can see it becoming a marketplace/ leasure/ a park.. perhaps all three and a lot of trees!

I'm interested to see your bus stops, my lines especially my main one is roughly the same length as yours but there's an unrealistic amount of people waiting, some are up to 600 people, I've put more lines now so it covers smaller portions, and added like 15 buses to the main lines, it's better but still hectic, is it normal for the game? I don't have trams but I've added a train line but the distance is too large so it doesn't help with the bus situation.
@Caro2Late2 жыл бұрын
I've watched a lot of City Planner Plays and Biffa; They always suggest a few things when there are so many people waiting at bus stops. You may want to upgrade your public transport (to metro's or trains), or upgrade your pedestrian connectivity, or encourage biking and make your city bike-friendly. A little bit cheezy, but this helps as well: If you have access to the workshop and/or mods, then there are also ways to enhance the number of people that can get on a bus. I hope this helps and good luck with your city!
@alexandriatuckwell95702 жыл бұрын
@@Caro2Late thank you 😊 I ended up putting in a monorail and deleted the main bus lines that were crazy busy. I don't have many of the packs but I think that's helped alot. I'm not great at building train tracks and monorails but they look okay and work well. Which pack has the bikes? I love seeing the people using paths and running from place to place.
