Yes,alcoholic drug addicted cigarette smokers are "evolved" in the brain, intellect and emotionally. There's no connection between claiming science benefits mankind while at the same time ignoring it and poisoning oneself in the name of "intelligent" evolution. Hitch should have realized why his approach to living was destroying the mere genetics he claimed evolved from less evolved "minds". Apes aren't seeking out poisons yet the more evolved Hitch did. Great case for ancestry and evolution. Wow Hitch had destructive early relationships and viewpoints towards men. So now he's reduced to a stereotypical mainstream atheist cliche'. No loving man in boyhood, no loving father in heaven. Implying his mothers boyfriend might have drove her to suicide is telling.

I have to point out, that while you might not drink or smoke...no one is commenting on your talks anywhere...that is to say - the one thing you can not deny of Hitchens is his intelligence and passion. To say that "since apes dont smoke, humans do, but smoking is bad...therefore evolution is untrue" is so unbelievably idiotic. Evolution does not portend that every step of evolution is towards "perfection" - it is reaction, for the purpose of survival. Smoking, in itself, no, is not good for you. But since apes do not vaccinate themselves, build hospitals, have ambulances, or any other such things leads me to this point: even if your argument was even remotely viable (which it is not), then the fact that apes do not have all of the life-saving tools, ideas, actions, or behaviors that we do, completely destroys anything else you have to say. thank you.

If religion is poison, which there is no causal nexus ever scientifically proven in regards to religion affecting behavior, then prove it if you claim you live life by what is testable, falsifiable and proven. This claim in itself shows Hitch was an intelligent illogical panderer who lacked reason. But you can convince yourself of whatever fulfills your sense of superiority. Hitchens is a classic case of an intellectual mind clouded by deep seeded unresolved emotional issues manifested in an outward attempt at creating an air of a superior self image, but is obviously a deeply disturbed man who had a self hatred. This is proven by his behavior, not by his attempts at intellectualizing "philosophies" , that by the way, lacked cohesive or consistent logic. Reason isn't recognizable by people like you apparently.

Except when he lost all those debates on the war in Iraq. It's easy to win a debate when you're debating religious crackpots.

I hear you Karen, I too discover him in KZfaq perhaps a year after his passing, I truly feel the world is a poorer place without this man in it, luckily and thanks to technology Christopher lectures, debates, ideas and opinions live until human extinction here and in books, take care Karen, a Hitch admirer is a friend of mine, I love this man who thought me to think for myself, I do have all of his books, truly amazing individual, Science should have cloned this man.

I am reading Hitch 22 right now and you are so correct about the chapters on his beloved mother, Yvonne, and father, the Commander. Then on to his years of schooling and beyond. Truly find him fascinating, charismatic, riveting. So sadly missed does not seem sufficient words.
