LOS ANGELES - Big Stretch has talked with us several times over the years. We met back in 2007 and did an interview at the old City Library on Vermont & 36th Street. In 2014 Big Stretch did another interview with us, and we met up with him again during the end of 2018. Big Stretch talks about the gentrification in the USC area, but he also speaks on that idea of Crips and Bloods functioning together and questions how sincere that unity really is. Perhaps this critique can spark a new dialogue into how effective and the possibilities of Bloods and Crips coming together without conflict in business, the streets, music and all facets.

I came from Crip, and I was with him all the way until he started changing his language. He went from what seemed to be a changed man to a 1992 LA blood. Anybody who made it through what we been through I salute to you CRIP, OR BLOOD. Its Money Time, we done enough pain, but not enough gain.

Triple P bro it’s everywhere 2, even here in Florida, I took a look at my hood and surely enough they are taking the black neighborhood away. Where I’m at they’ve even took down black houses and put multiple retention ponds in place where a black family could have had a house.

I must admit that he took the words right out of my mouth. Now that we know the truth, let’s unite and finally turn street gangs into positive forces for the black community. They’re already powerful, so add the positivity to it and it’s a wrap. Peace!

Dude tried to be positive, but he clearly got pent up anger and PTSD. It is the conclusion I came to watching Tray Deee, BG Knocc and Mobb James interviews on Vlad. You can tell they are trying to stay positive, but if you let them talk long enough, them old demons start talking again. Not saying they're still banging, but I also don't believe that shit is completely out of their systems. They can just control it better 'cause they know better.

This brother hit on many points. We as a community have external, opposing factors that suppress our rise but that does not negate the fact that within our own community, we have enough resources and building opportunity to revert those forces. Building up our community makes our neighborhoods more profitable, investing our black owned business generates generational wealth in the community, voting locally and representing our community through boards and commissions will give the community the voice and resource it needs to be sustainable and succeed. The only factor is missing is us. We have to show up and speak out. There's plenty of commissions and open seats that a brother or sister can occupy and legitimize our communal grind but we don't take it to the necessary level to get those people in the seats or sit in the seats ourselves. Eventually they continue to take on those roles and push us out because if you're you're not PRESENT, you're not rePRESENTing.
