I know some biblicists who say it's absurd and even blasphemous to use any thinking that's sourced from outside the Bible, what I like about scholasticism is that it can pave a more understandable, easier to digest path towards the Bible and towards Christ for non-Christians who would outright reject the assertion that you need to surrender yourself and your will to the ultimate authority of the Bible. Yes, we do ultimately need to do so, but you need to ease a secularist into it. I even know a couple biblicists who would say that if someone won't accept the premise immediately, they're not saved and not worth talking to, but I see that attitude as fundamentally un-Christian. We're supposed to be a guiding light and show forgiveness. And sanctification doesn't happen overnight, you know.

just throwing this out there: vast majority of calvinists are infralapsarian. i don't know any theologians that are superlapsarian. i feel like that theology just exists for the sake of existing. For those who might want more on this: Romans 1 says that God gave them up to a debased mind. God "giving up" means that He's just letting them be. In other words, God's common grace is being lifted from them. God's common grace is the reason why humans aren't as evil as they can be. When God's common grace is lifted, then people become evil as they can be because it's where their sinful totally depraved minds are already at. So when God "hardened" pharaoh's heart, he wasn't necessarily making Pharaoh "more" evil than he already was. But simply that God's common grace was being lifted from Pharaoh so that Pharoah would act in the sinful-debased-depraved way that his sinful nature led him.

Hell is totally an eternal punishment. It's eternal separation from God, that's all what Hell is. This 'annhiliation' doctrine is making hell seem like not a bad punishment, but oh boy, it is an awful and horrible punishment. Revelation 14:9-11 KJV: "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name." Hell is also described as an eternal/everlasting fire, or an unquenable fire. It is described as ETERNAL punishment. Matthew 25:41 KJV: "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" Matthew 3:12 KJV: "whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." Mark 9:44 KJV: "where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." 2 Thessalonians 1:9 KJV: "who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;" Matthew 25:46 KJV: "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." Revelation 20:10 KJV: "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." Nowhere does the bible speak of annihilation in Hell, that's made up.

@@TW-fs3fjI canʼt talk for the protestants, but the Catholic Church uses the Creed. How dare you call us Arians? Itʼs the Greeks who refuse to update their outdated theology. @TW-fs3fj
@TW-fs3fj 11 ай бұрын
@@deutschermichel5807 I said you follow the Gothic Arian Creed. Not that you're Arianists. The Goths took full control over the western Church by 500AD. The Filioque was added because pagan Spaniards couldn't comprehend why the Son and Holy Spirit came from God. It was not agreed upon at any council, and any documents defending papism at the time were forgeries. Plus Peter had two disciples, the original being from where our forefathers were first called Christians. Your historians acknowledge these facts, in fact iirc the Eastern Papists don't even follow that creed. Wake up
@deutschermichel5807
@deutschermichel5807 11 ай бұрын
@@TW-fs3fj what are you talking? The Goths didnʼt take control over the Westeen Church in 500. And the filioque was officially added half a millenium afterwards, when the Goths have been long extinct. Also you donʼt even seem to understand the Holy Trinity: Pater, Filius et Spiritus Sanctus Deus sunt. Pater non est Filius, Filius non est Spiritus, Spiritus non est Pater. So when you say we wouldnʼt understand the procession of the Holy Spirit, YOU are the one not understanding. In the Nicaean Creed, it says: “ex Patre Filioque procedit”. The Holy Spirit IS God, jsut as the Father and the Son are. Spiritus in Latin doesnʼt only mean ghost, but also breath. So the Holy Spirit really is the Breath of God, his divine Sigh of joy which inspires his creation for the better. So when the Holy Trinity has been around for ever, as God is eternal, you see: The Son is eternally born of the Father and they “see” themselves and “look” at each other, recognizing themselves as one and figuratively Sigh of love. Imagine you would look into the mirror and see a person. Whom do you see? Yourself, or rather a perfect counterpart. Many people with healthy hearts and souls recognize themselves in the mirror and realize “Yes, this is me”. This joyful feeling, this relief can be compared to the Holy Spirit, when God “sees” himself.

Is it relevant if it's symbolic or not? I mean...if the presence of Christ is in the sacrament it's a miracle we cannot prove and take by faith. But we take communion in a manner worthy of Christ. And if it's symbolic we still take it in a manner worthy of Christ. In remembrance of His blood and body broken for us. Maybe I'm ignorant but I don't see the argument between the two positions.
@restedassurance
@restedassurance 11 ай бұрын
@@zacharybaker695 If it is symbolic, then the meal is only in remembrance of Christ and the forgiveness of sins He won. If it is real, then the meal truly has Christ present and the meal itself truly offers the forgiveness of sins. Whether or not the Lord's Supper does anything alone is an important concept. To a Sacramentalist like myself, it would be argued not observing Christ's body and blood in the Supper is a form of sinning against the Lord; the other obvious way of sinning against it would be not recognizing your sin and need of a Savior when taking it. If understanding / taking the Supper incorrectly is a possible sin, then it very much is relevant. Luther and Zwingli basically agreed on everything except the Lord's Supper - and they saw that as crucial enough to not join fellowship.

Me, a former Baptist who's always believed that predestination is stupid even after leaving the faith. Accepting or rejecting anything at all is my decision to make and not ever God's. And I'm not saying God is incapable of predestination just that he never predestined it. He didn't predestine anything. He just knows who's saved or not because he's omniscient. Granted, I am in a bit of a predicament since the church I grew up in didn't believe salvation could be lost so I guess I'm now damned to eternal salvation. Ah well.

Mark 9:44 KJV: "where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." 2 Thessalonians 1:9 KJV: "who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;" Matthew 25:46 KJV: "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." Revelation 20:10 KJV: "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

Amazing breakdown of theology! As a zoomer myself, I've been fascinated expanding my knowledge and learning where we as Christians polarize. It's taken me a few years to be where I am and I sure wish I had come across this video sooner. Your explanations of these complicated and confusing topics makes them very digestable! Sometimes, but it is often well-meaning but hard-headed stubbornness that leads to these problems. A frequent phrase I use in discussing these topics: “There are many godly people who love Jesus who disagree on this topic.” That way I leave open the discussion for clarification without demonizing those I disagree with

I love the icons that you have been using! Also, I would like to throw in "ecumenicalism", or the belief that Nicene Christians should all work to find common ground with each other. Also, I forgot the term, but my club's minister has mentioned an argument that, since the Bible is the word of God, it supersedes all other works and therefore does not require evidence for its truth.

Interesting. There aren't too many Calvinistic continuationists around, most charismatics are Arminian (that or they've never even considered Soteriology) and most Calvinists are cessationists (I happen to fit into that category.) Having said that, I think I've got much more in common with you than with an Arminian cessationist in terms of theology.

@richbandicoot you know, cessationists don't claim that God doesn't work miracles, even miraculous healing today. We certainly do say that God is free to exercise His power over creation in any way He sees fit, and does sometimes, perhaps even often, choose to do so in ways that transcend the natural order with miracles. What we deny, however, is that in this post apostolic age, that God has given power to individuals to wield to do miracles in that way. Sure, a church or a fellow Christian may pray for healing, but he or she cannot exercise the divine right of healing as the apostles did in their day. It's not that healing miracles have ceased, it's the gift of healing that has ceased.

0:00 "Theology people like to use big fancy words for things, but the things these words mean is pretty simple" That seems to be true of a LOT of fields of study. Business, linguistics, sports, chess, and almost every other one. Perhaps you could say that math and science use complicated terms to describe complicated things, but they seem to be the exception. Whenever you are confused by a field's complicated words, just remember: you're not stupid, you're just a beginner, and those two aren't the same. A good third of the reason people use these words is to feel superior in one way or another. Notice when people use fancy words to sound smart, and just remember it's the conversational equivalent of driving a lifted truck.

And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭14‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭ This to me is so clear that your punishment is eternal.
