You're correct, it is a culture thing. You may find it weird but that's just kind of how Filipinos are. If you notice his standup jokes about his mom youll see a glimpse of how we interact with each other. We all like to have fun and joke around to a fault. Tactless it may seem, but it's our culture. And I agree, Jo Koy understood it.

She's auntie always call him "Jokoy" but thats what he heard.. but when he comfront her aunt later and ask why she called him Jokoy, her aunt told him she didnt call him that name. She correctly say it as "Jo ko" which means "My Jo" in english. Also Jokoy mention it in one of his videos.
