Trippin On Trout

2 жыл бұрын

Following on from last week's video (make sure you have watched that so you are up to speed on the mission) we wake up to promising conditions....the river has dropped and no more rain!
Today, we head up a tributary in the hope of finding fishable water and some big browns, while the main river continues to drop.

Fantastic browns! I noticed you high sticked your rod, putting all the pressure of the fish on the tip of the rod, you had the rod pointing almost away from the fish trying to pullhim your way, right when it popped , instead of keeping the rod more parallel with the fish which puts more pressure on with the rest of the rod...but you guys are pro's so you already know this.

Fantastic as always! Over the last 30+ years I’ve had to warranty repair 8 or 10 broken rods. When you hear that “snap” your heart sinks just a little, but a big fish takes the sting out of it. The last time I heard that “snap” was in my fly tying room 3 years ago while getting rigged for a trip. I turned too quickly and broke the tip on the cabinet where I store my hackle. Ouch….. Thankfully the better rod makers offer good warranties even if the cost for repairs has gone up substantially in recent years. ALWAYS have spare rods close at hand. Watching your videos since the very beginning has been a great pleasure. I don’t take for granted all the special things you do to create seamless shots with lasting impressions. Some of your footage is burned into my memory. I just wish I could remember which videos contain my favorite shots so I could go back and watch them again. Well done!!! Question: where did you come from? Your accent is a bit different than the locals you fish with? Are you from the UK somewhere? You’ve certainly adopted your new home perfectly as though you’ve been there forever!!!

Quick shout out. My NY's resolution was to comment more on the channels I watch regularly, but as it's usually on the big telly I never seem to get around to it! Really enjoy the channel but makes me very wistful. After regular NZ trips for years, it's just gone 2 since my last. FYI: This and the previous episode don't appear in the Home or Videos links (at least on my computer and TV), only in the Playlist link for SI Diaries 6. Part 1 seems to have disappeared as well now. Possibly explains the low views. When I watched Part 1 2 days after posting I think it showed as 7 views. This one is on 4 views as I write and I guess you posted a few hours ago. 23:36 Been there, done that, who hasn't!

Thanks heaps for the heads up there bro. I have no idea why that would be the case - I really thought the views would be more than they are on these vids as I put so much effort into them. Maybe that is part of the reason but have zero clues how to change or fix it🤷‍♂️

Great tips/refreshers. I think all of us are susceptible to being a little lazy with checking leaders after a tangle and or landing a nice fish. Not dissimilar to forgetting to pack the reel (only to find out after making a 2+ hr drive). Hope you can get that rod repaired under warranty.

Brilliant Alex. Just love the honesty with your afternoon shocker. Reminded me of a time I broke a rod tip, angrily trying to pull my rig out of gorse bush. I’d false caste into it going for a big brownie. Unlike you I had one rod on a similar remote tramp in mission ( muppet award!). But did prove you could fish dry droppers with 3/4 of a rod! !!!!

Thanks a ton for your brilliant videos! Too bad about the broken stick. Side question that may have been answered already...what is the technique you use where you simply tap the top of your rod to release the leader ? I might sound a bit nerdy, but I must know! Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work, and never tell us where you are fishing! lol...
