Another great video, we have some huge rattlesnakes here in south central Alabama but I've never been hunting. Maybe one day I'll give it a try.I think you can hunt them here anytime because they are so numerous. We have the timber and the Eastern diamondback which can get really big. Anyway I always enjoy your very well done videos.

I try to watch all your videos of catching timbers. I have hunted with my dad since I was 8. I’m 44 and still hunt every chance I get. Something my dad and brother and I learned down through the years is when a rattler gets under a rock, we would use a small limb from a tree to “switch” them out from under the rocks. It does not hurt or injure them and you don’t have to waste a lot of time trying to tong them. Also I suggest you using a fish net with a sack sewn onto it for your sacks you put them in. A lot safer to put them in and the concept is the same. You can hold the sack farther away from you and the hole is more open for you to put them in. When their in you do like you already do and twist them up and flip the sack into itself. I would like to come to PA and hunt with y’all sometime.

Great video as always. I really appreciate the information that you provide and your respect for nature and our Creator. I was wondering if any of you apply for the PA elk hunt(s). It would be cool if one of you drew a tag and made a video of your hunt. As a matter of fact, if I was lucky enough to be drawn I'd invite you to film it. (although that would take a chunk of your time). Anyway, keep up the good work. Best videos on KZfaq!

I love to see you guys come out to California and Hunt some snakes mainly because I have no idea where I would be looking in my own backyard. Also just curious what your favorite brand of snake boots are and how reliably waterproof they are? I got a $200 pair at Bass Pro said to be 100% waterproof and they leaked the first time second time and third time I took them out.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
@Leatherwoodoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
well we do not have a favorite brand. they all start to leak rather quickly no matter how much you spend or brand. the stress put on the boots from hiking so much must wear out the waterproofing in them fast. Unless you go with a snake proof rubber boot. but they can be tough to walk in all day.

@Leatherwoodoutdoors
@Leatherwoodoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I think that would be the second biggest snake we have tagged on film. the biggest tagged snake was a 50" snake I tagged in 2017 i think. yeah, you can still do it in the sun, but you gotta be quick about it. that camp is a rental that anyone can rent. that was the first time we ever stayed there. We dont deer hunt up where we snake hunt.

Awesome video guys, can't wait for hunting video's to roll out this fall. I was curious as to how you dispatch the snakes after catching them? obviously you would want to keep the hide, i have watched the video's from your past that you tan them. I also have seen that yinz eat them too so how do you dispatch them without breaking the hide? I never hunted snakes so this might be totally inaccurate but i thought that carbon dioxide poising, AKA gassing them would be way to ethically dispatch them while keeping the hide intact but then you wouldn't have eaten them?
@Leatherwoodoutdoors

Thanks! The two best ways are to either step on the head and cut it off with a knife or keep it in a pillow sack and drown it in water. ( if your wanting to keep the head attached for a mount)

I notice you fellows whisper when you're around and close to the rattlers. I've been hunting them since 1953, since I was 8 years old, and have always whispered when my Uncle and I would be close to one. Years went by, and as I gained knowledge about this beautiful animal, eventually found out they are completely deaf to airborne sound waves, but very attuned to vibration. Who knows, perhaps they can pick up on the very soundwaves vibration? Anyway, my point is, I still whisper when I'm around them-- maybe out of respect for the snake, or perhaps just because I'm a lunkhead, like my Uncle always said! Can't even get close to getting around like I used to, and so nice to sit back and watch your hunts-- especially since you rarely include music. I still flintlock too, so I'm always tagging along on your deer hunts -- really like the period hunts with flinters. Thanks, and keep them coming.

some keep it as a pet, some keep for show and tell then release at a later date or we eat them and save the skin.

ETHICS-- same thing for Hunting Ginseng,newbies picking three leafers..Over Harvesting killing the populations.. What gets done when tagging a snake? is it to eat? or to keep as a pet? To many idiots that taunt and not fit for the outdoors,even with dee hunting. Reusing tags,winging lead and wounding. Those who actually follow the rules are few and far between.

Came across your channel recently would never have imagined that the state of Pennsylvania has rattlesnakes even the northern counties I can understand hunting and catching them for research and showing them for educational purposes or pets but why would you want to eat them the poor things have done nothing to deserve to be eaten.
