I was in a taxi last year in turkey. The driver was a young kid . He was playing 80s music. He loved anything UK from the 80s but had never heard of big country . I showed him this clip and said he should listen to the crossing. 2 weeks later when he arrived to take us back to the airport he was playing this when we got in the car. He said that he was sharing this with his friends locally and they all loved it. He looked so happy. Music is for all to share. Share the love RIP Stuart 👍👍

Whilst living in London in my early 20s, I got a ticket to a Big Country concrrt in Glasgow. 2 friends and I drove up, but Stuart was ill and cancelled. I was broken hearted, but didn't give up. I was an Aussie living in London and it wasn't long before I got o see BC in Kentish Town and in Brixton. The best. Now I live in Switzerland and still love them🥰. Yes, RIP Stuart and lotsa love to his family and friends.

Nowhere near bohemian rhapsody. Queen encapsulated many music genres, big country used Scottish riffs, no comparison.
@jonrichie6110
@jonrichie6110 3 ай бұрын
Nothing here that can be compared to Queen in anyway shape or form but this band has a sound that was probably more regional than universal. Stuart was an able player and a good song writer but like a one trick pony that evolved along the journey from The Skid's. But look at Status Quo? Another one trick pony too. Again a regional band but legendary in their sound.

Big Country were the first band I ever saw live, Avoneil leisure centre in Belfast in 1984. I was 14. This band have created some of the most sublime, melodic, emotional music I've ever had the pleasure to listen to, their music fills my heart with joy. I still miss Stuart but I firmly believe that for as long as we have his music he will never leave us, he just doesn't come around this way anymore. His light will shine brightly forever.

@@discharge29 Mark Brzezicki is one of the best drummers out there which is why he has played for not only Big Country , he has also played with the Cult, Ultravox, From the Jam, Procol Harum, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Roger Daltrey, Fish from Marrillion, Steve Harley, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, The Pretenders, Thunderclap Newman, Midge Ure, Pete Townshend and many others. Brzezicki was also the sole drummer on Shine, the second (and final, to date) English-language studio album by Swedish singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA. Extraordinary band, alchemy was forged when these boys got together and Stuart the understated front man bossed it, RIP sir.

Look into the work of Daniel Ash, of Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Love and Rockets fame. He used the e-bow often to create that deeply atmospheric guitar tone.

One of my favorite bands of all times. As an American, I have no idea why the group wasn't a huge hit here in the States. Should have been, considering the crap that was being put out at the time. When a friend of mine played me some of their songs, I could not believe how good and original they sounded.

Very little airplay, that was the main culprit. When IABC was out, our local stations wouldn’t play it. However, they did play Look Away. Go figure.

The people running them behind the scenes were cokehead morons who didn't realize what they had on their hands. They comprehensively fucked them up time after time, and then blamed Stuart Anderson for taking refuge in booze - which must have in some small part due to his ongoing frustration with his managers' and record companies and bookers attempts to put a square peg in a round hole. He had a unique voice and they blew it. Meanwhile fucking Bono (and I'm from Dublin btw) is a trillionaire. It's never the talent that makes the mistakes.
