This is a cool idea

On your planner, if you put in a 45 degree piece of pvc on the planner side, this will get the hose out of the way of the output side so that you are not fighting the hose every time you plane. I have the same planner and I did this and it works great.

Clever solution. I solved this in my shop by using the 4" Woodriver quick disconnect ($7.99) which has a tapered throat so it can handle variations in 4" ports.

All you need now is a big work table and a urinal. Nice job on the quick connects!

One other thing. They make these awesome little fans that run off of heat induction. Sits on the fireplace. Moves the air for free!

When i had my shop set up, I had a main trunk line run over head, with slide ports that I could open and close, and each station had a drop to the floor with a waste gate, and each piece of equipment had a dust collection hooked up, so just a slide of the gate, and one unit was operating, and clean up was almost as easy with the floor drops and a broom! ! What was really nice, was being able to compress saw dust into small logs for burning in my stove! Boy do I miss my shop!

First and foremost hope the baby and everybody is doing well , it was nice seeing the pic's when you brought her home. I really like the dust collection idea I think your right it'll make it much quicker and easier to make a change from each machine wish I'd thought of that.

You could build a distributer and hook all the machines up to it and then just open the port to the machine you're using at the time.

thanks for posting your videos. I know it gets frustrating when you share a project and have random people telling you that you should do it different. Simple videos like this give your audience ideas of things they can do for projects of their own. I know it slows everything down when your filming but just wanted you to know we appreciate the work you put into filming and editing. It is a lot of work for sure!

Maybe you should put some orientation pins, then it may work also with less powerful magnets and it's easyer to center.

You’re getting pretty serious about your woodworking shop!

Here's a suggestion - if it hasn't been made already - DON'T pull the two halves, rather, slide them side-ways and then pull apart. WAY easier and is what I do with my rip fence extension on my table saw rip fence. I use N52 grade magnets, which are some of the strongest ones available (easily at least) plus they have a centre hole so they can be screw fixed if necessary.

The idea is good. But probably a better way to do it would have been to flip the ply wood, have the magnets on the backside so they couldnt come out (rather than the gasket) And having the pvc protrude into the machine side for location would also be a good idea and prevent them being simply bumped off. Check out Magport. They make these fittings from pvc in multiple hose sizes. They work great. Have them on my entire system.

I use FazLock bayonet style fittings on all my DC drops and hoses..Got them from Rockler I think. You need a Jet 14" bandsaw and make a circle cutting jig for it. It will change your life!

I love firewood and equipment stuff, but I appreciate the diversity in your content. I’m hoping to set up a nice woodworking shop in my historic timberframe barn once I finish fixing it. Flooring is 80% complete, but I still have some sill work that needs to wait until spring. And new sheathing to make it weather tight. Maybe 2 years to completion? ….. Like you our family will be expanding around March 1 which will slow things down for a while.

It’s a bit more costly but the Dust Right quick change system is a great solution. Their hoses are worth the upgrade even with your current system, they expand as needed and are less hassle when not in use

I used n57 neodymium magnets to lock a pocket door so my kids couldn’t open it when they were toddlers. It worked great.

Very nice project! I like how you showed the challenges with the weak magnets - others would have edited that out so I appreciate your honesty. If you have problems with the magnets trying to come out you could use a 2-part 15-minute epoxy and that certainly wouldn't come out. Another tip to keep the shower pan liner dead flat would be to glue the liner to the blocks as you did, but clamp them gasket-down to a table until the caulk dries ensuring a flat surface. Keep up the great work!

I think you need to add a 90° on the planer. Keep the hose outta the way to the side. Never use the dark magnets for strength. They'll break easier to.

I thought I saw some of Neighbor Doug's influences in the video. I'm not going to lie. At first, I thought he's spending a lot of time any money just to save 20 seconds. Then you showed how quick you can change from one tool to the next. You won me over in the end.

Neodymium is where its at!!!!

It's rewarding to see an accountant screwed over by his own nature. Glad it wasn't too harsh of a screw up though, you are a great person for an accountant. You generally break the out of the stereotype and you have a great channel to follow. I would watch your hand placement on the table saw, seemed like you were safe but the next time you do that and make a minor mistake that blade/wood can draw your fingers into the blade. Little pieces are just a bad idea to cut on a table saw in that way.

I wondered at first if you might be going octopus hoses and valves. I went Doug's route with the wall mounted vacuum, cyclone, and remote that attaches so you are a step head now since I've mainly been wrapping up outside projects

For easier one hand release, you could either glue a couple wooden drawer pull knobs between magnets, or route out half circle finger recesses on the perimeter of the vacuum side plywood rings. I’d think that would allow you to pull the magnetic connections off center without dropping the hose. Grab one handed pieces with one hand and your hose with the other to increase workflow kind of thing. 😊

Adam, I enjoy your videos and often get good ideas to use myself. One thing I noticed in this one, however, is that the size and bulk of your plywood connectors looks like it will impede the wood being run through your planer. Might just be a camera angle thing, but I thought I should mention it.

Great video. The only thing missing is a good sample trial run to see how well it works. Curious how the magnets hold up during use and if anything gets out.

Just add a "Y" and a blast gate on the jointer and the planer.....never have to disconnect/reconnect hoses again! I ran the solid pipe at the ceiling and then drop down with flex to each machine....keeps everything out of the way and then you don't have to play with hoses!

Should put a 45 or 90 on the planer in case your piece hits it

Love the video, but have you thought about running dedicated hoses and blast gates at the dust separator? This would prevent you from having to move hoses and since its close enough, you could open/close blast gates as you're moving from machine to machine, then you can have more permanent hoses fixtured to the machines and help improve dust collection/airflow. Great content, love the channel!

Hi Adam, this was a great idea! Is the adapter on the planer going to get ripped off by the wood as it comes out? Just curious if it’s an optical illusion or if it would potentially hit. I’m going to try and do something similar. I have the same problem switching hoses all the time.

Adam …Alex plus is not an adhesive…not if, but when this fails I’d use epoxy

If you have a problem with them pulling out you can get a glue called star bond with it and the accelerator they will stay in place just be careful bc it sets up in like 10 secs once you spray the accelerator on the glue so try and not get it on your fingers or hands...

don't bother trying to find dust collection adaptors that will work with different machines. Check out Furnco plumbing adaptors at HomeyD etc. They will connect anything to anything and are cheap

Something I have noticed in your projects like this is that you instead of engineering something to a higher/heavier usage level you design it for slightly more than adequately. You are counting pennies in an attempt to save dollars. In the end you end up spending money for better equipment for use in your projects whether it is rolling casters for your wood containment bins or these magnets that are integral to maintaining the hose connections. Stop going on the cheap guy it is costing you in dollars and time and energy. Stop being a comptroller on a project and start being a good engineer instead. You are depending on these things you are creating make them dependable.
