Biggest ever counterfeit raid on Bury New Road, Manchester, sees 15 people arrested

The biggest ever raid on Manchester's 'Counterfeit Street' has been launched by police determined to unmask the 'Mr Bigs' behind criminal businesses.
More than 100 officers from Greater Manchester Police and City of London Police targeted three businesses on Bury New Road on Wednesday (March 11).
Cops blocked off the premises and sealed off part of the main road.
The operation is the latest aimed at smashing criminals operating in the country's counterfeit capital.
Det Supt Pete Ratcliffe, of City of London Police, said: "What we are trying to do is get beyond the immediate foot soldiers - and get to the Mr Bigs behind this.

I drive past there 3 times a week and have never ever seen any police presence. The street is crowded with men just standing around, it's very unnerving.

Didn’t used to be, it was purely a wholesale area back in the 89s and early 90s but then they put on a Sunday Market, all started from there as they couldn’t connect the stalls with the warehouses

Counterfeit products are essentially a scam on the customers. They don't know what they're getting. The fake products could be made of toxic materials, there is no oversight on the supply chain either for safety for the workers, environment, workers etc. Its about much more than just protecting IP's or tax money which isn't paid either in some cases.
