There is a joke in Canada that says 'I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out'. Let's hope that racing never gets such a connection.

It's true there is fighting in NASCAR but just like in Hockey, there is an etiquette. The #1 rule is that only drivers who have just gotten out of the car can fight other drivers who just got out of the car. The reason is simple: racing is very physically exhausting and for example, a crew member who has been waiting in the garage all race has a huge advantage over a driver who has been confined in a 130 degree (55 Celsius) box and driving his ass off for 3 hours. Thus the fine for Richard Childress when he attacked a driver who was fresh out of his car. Funny outcome: Kyle Busch now drives for Richard Childress. The story goes that RC said "hold my watch" before attaching Busch and part of the signing ceremony included gifting of a watch.

The 15 year DQ is completely fine by me. Throwing a part towards a completely exposed body is one thing. Throwing a helmet towards a closed chassis car is a completely different thing.

It must be said that the Corberi incident was different than most nascar fights. Corberi lost his mind after he caused a crash, threw a part of his kart at another driver, which is dangerous due to the open air addition to karting, and then he and his father piledrived the kid. Very different and a deserved penalty for Corberi. Edit: I do think that throwing helmets is dumb and dangerous as well, and should be penalized accordingly

Throwing a bumper at someone in a gokart could easily kill him. Also i dont think that allowing fights necessarily means that "hidden" revenges like car sabotages, or sending someone into a wall would stop. If aggressive people get penalized in some way, there is going to be less of them and everyone will be better off.

As a former race driver from Denmark I have to say that I was never close to beating anyone although I had a few episodes that were definitely frustrating. If the race control people are good, observant, and neutral or unbiased they will penalize accordingly. Problem is when they're not as you have experienced yourself in Euro Legend Cars!! This was actually one of the reasons I quit car racing in Denmark, very biased race control back then 😢

Racing is racing, fighting is fighting no reason to combine the two. Racing at those speed well any speed requires discipline. Also, and one would hope mental and emotional maturity.

Ward also had some weed in his system when he got out of his car and walked down the track. Tony Stewart tried to avoid him. I’m saying this as someone who hated Tony when he drove As a nascar fan, let em fight. Boys have at it, I’d rather a broken nose than a scary wreck

N as long as the drivers fight each other in the pits and nobody else is involved its ok. But you don't do it on track and tear up the cars. That is best simple way I can explain it in the US

I feel like fights are okay as you're emotional in the heat of the moment, but if you go up to a man to fight with your helmet still on when his is off, that's just a punk move

That kid throwing the stuff on the track during the kart race was not the same as the nascar fight. He could have injured multiple competitors on track. In the US its kind of acceptable to handle it in the pits as long as it is the 2 drivers and nobody else and as long as it doesn't get to bad. Short tracks there is typically quite a few of these every year at each track. N that makes rivalries and fan bases. It is a lot of what Nascar was founded on. Somebody works on their car all week and puts all their own money into it and lately a lot of these kids who don't pay for nthn or work on nthn takes them out n destroys their car. It has become a big topic in the US the past few years.

Zero tolerance is nonsense, letting them just fight is too chaotic and unpredictable, especially cause fans will take that as a invitation to fight on the grandstands. They should just give drivers some rules, not directly letting them get away with it. Maybe the first incident is a warning, then after race suspension. Anything dangerous could lead to season suspension etc. Just strict rules, but not ridiculous. It's easy to control you're emotions for some, but even they can lose it sometimes, so there has to be a some exception. Why people probably like the drivers fighting in nascar is probably cause it's relatable and human to lose you're shiz. Unlike in F1 which it's usually a lot of Pr robots. Even in press or after a huge incident in a race, they're pretty conservative on what they say, which can be boring, and eyeroll worthy. That guy that got 15years was justified, he messed up once, and did it 2times after without learning to chill out, clearly shows it isn't just a one time mistake that he probably regrets to an extent. The fines though, like with max touching Lewis's wing, that's just straight up bs, and no one is going to convince me otherwise. If the 2026 rules still goes forth I'll probably just start watching nascar, there's no point in watching a sport that consistently does everything that i don't like. The halo was a good move though, and it looks way better on the car, idk what people complained about back in 2018. And FIA GFY

if there is someone saying that there is no place for fight in motorsports than i say they didnt understand motorsport and sports at all. you dont play sport. you do do it. but you play football basketball golf tennis. you dont do footbal or basketball. these are just games. motorsport is one of the real sports. if you do mistake in football you loose the game. or you could brake your leg. if your rival is an asshole he could brake your leg too in football. but you could die in motorsports! it is much more intense sport! it is a real sport like boxing, show jumping, wrestling, sky diving. you dont play these sports. you do it and it is not a fucking game! if something goes wrong you could die horribly in these sports. specially in nascar with a constantly over 300 km/h with low safety cars you go crazy if your opponent is dirty on the track. i do motorsports too and i understand the situation.

The other thing about NASCAR is this well known move by the governing body which has its own catch phrase: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_at_it,_boys . This was an attempt to let the drivers self-police their behavior. To the surprise of absolutely no one, the situation got out of hand and they rescinded the policy. For the record, I'm with the European POV as stated by Alberto, physical violence is never the answer. While entertaining and generating of buzz, it appeals to human beings' lower, baser nature and not to our ability to cooperate and progress as a species and a culture.
