The answer is yes, the meat is available. But it depends on the region you're in. I know at least in Shandong, where my wife lives, it is available. And personally, I care very little. I would absolutely not turn down a plate of dog meat if my inlaws served it for dinner. I've always been of the opinion that it is hypocritical to place your dogs on a pedestal and casually look away at how livestock is treated when cows and pigs are also relatively intelligent animals that have to be suffering in the mass-production meat industry. Heck, I've owned chickens before and even they seemed decently aware of their surroundings. Enough to choose a nesting location and come to my back door every day to ask for food. And also call for help when a cat was sneaking into my yard. So if you're against eating dogs because you have some emotional attachment to them, take a look at the rest of the standard livestock first and consider being a vegetarian if you hate it. At least that way, your hate for eating animals is fair.

It's not just Chinese thing, it's generally ASIAN. You can see dog meat sold in Korea and other Asian countries too. If someone wishes to buy it - they can, if they don't want - they won't. But generally, it's available. Not to mention other "exotic food" sold in special markets that are even worse than dog, in my opinion.

@lolturtle1311 ай бұрын
Poisoned with fertilizer? lmao. The thing that's made to feed crops? Maybe you meant pesticides? Because if that's the case, maybe. But heavy use of pesticides is a problem with food in the US as well. The real concern is crops grown with water that's been contaminated by the heavy industry in China. The farmers don't intentionally contaminate their crops. It's just the rivers and groundwater may have already been polluted. However, the extent of the problem varies and I would not be that concerned about being poisoned living in any tiered city in China.

A big logic mistake here Choquito: Eat dog is not sth wrong and bad, and we should fully respect their right to eat dogs just as we asked them to respect our right to love dogs. There is no difference between eating dogs and eating chickens, lamps, fishes, why should where be a difference? Just cuz dogs are more cute? They are all creatures in the nature world and the human beings are logically able to kill any other creatures in need and necessary(in human beings' perspective, which is u and me). There is no such a "equal" for the nowadays world, if anyone really want to talk about real equal for all creatures then we should travel back to ancient time where man and other animals "equally" eat each other, not like now that there will be a consequence for a lion or tiger just cuz they attacked a human in emergency(from their perspective) and no consequence for human if its the other way around . And further more I have not hear any news about Chinese gov are doing anything to opposite the dog-eating(which u mentioned in the video, and I would appreciate it if u can share the source, and they should NOT do that in anyway cuz its NOT sth wrong that need to be stopped. Dont let ys fall in that WEST white-left logic, its their logic, but not the WORLD logic.

The pollution situation in China depends on the city. Shanghai is now mainly focused on finance and technology industries and does not have many heavily polluting factories, so the air quality is relatively good. However, in the northern parts, especially in some heavy industrial cities, pollution is still severe. My friend in Beijing told me that the pollution in Beijing is very severe.
@shanghaiandi76811 ай бұрын
True, the south is mostly clean as well
@LongLivetheCapitalist11 ай бұрын
Beijing is close to Mongolia and you can get a sense of what Mongolia did to the north. In addition, China's northeast region used to be the development of heavy industry, without them, China's military industry can not develop. Foreigners will only say that China's environmental pollution is serious, but never look at the reason.
@LongLivetheCapitalist11 ай бұрын
A hundred years ago, air pollution in Britain during the Industrial Revolution was more than ten times worse than in China. Visibility may be less than 10 meters. If I remember correctly, Churchill's secretary was killed in a car accident because of poor visibility.

Today, a hundred years later, the air and sunshine in Britain are perfect on sunny days, except when it rains. So I think China's future, the environment will be better.

Pollution in Beijing is mainly caused by topography. It is surrounded by tall mountains to the east, west and the north. Depending on wind direction, polluted air gets trapped

Thanks for clarifying some misconceptions for China. Most of points are true, but regarding eating dogs, I would like to say that WE CHINESE DO EAT DOGS. Given the dominaance of west culture and value influence, eating dog becomes a "Shame" for Chinese. But I can say loudly that we eat dogs. and we have been eating for more than 2000 years. Fan Kuai (242-189 BC) was a military general of the early Western Han dynasty. In his early days, he was a butcher and specialised in preparing dog meat. I grew up in Hubei Province, in my childhood, dog meats were normal food. because people were very poor at that time, very few chance to eat any meat, dog meat is a reasonable meat source. However, nowadays, eating dog meat is not that popular but still popular in some region, because most of Chinese have very diverse meat sources. Personally I haven't eaten dog meats in last 30years. From culture perspective, why should we feel shameful becasue of eating dogs? do westers feel shameful for eating beef because Indians think cows are holly animal?
Oh, thx so much. many of my friends still think there’s restrictions providing dog meat everywhere.😅

It doesn't take that much effort to find a church or mosque in a city as large as Shanghai. I don't know about Hindu temples. Perhaps a very small meeting place. There are many more Muslims living in China than Hindus. And they also have a long history. I literally just did a quick google search of mosques in Shanghai and immediately came up with 5 names. So I don't know what research this video maker has to do. He can just hop on the rail and go to any of the mosques. No one will kick him out. Songjiang Mosque Xiaotaoyuan Mosque Pudong Mosque Huxi Mosque Shanghai Fuyou Road Mosque

The Chinese do eat dog meat, but in modern society, dog meat is a very uneconomical source of protein, far inferior to pork and beef in the industrialized breeding industry, so even though it is very rare to eat dog meat in China today, it does not mean that it does not exist. Ancient China has always been an agricultural society, not as dependent on dogs as nomads. In ancient China, cattle were not allowed to be slaughtered. On the contrary, dog meat could be eaten.

What about the uighuren when you say all religions are accepted?
Honestly there is a masque right outside of my window and I know their festivals cause (such as the new year for them several days ago) it gets extra crowded and they sing all night in the masque. They sell moslem food on the first floor of our apartment building. They are part of the neighborhood. There is also a church one block away btw. I'm living in Shanghai. Anyone says uighur people are not accepted here is showing their ignorance.

dog is on the menu, not just in China. there are dogs specifically bred for human consumption. Have you ever heard of the breed "chow chow". do you know why it's called the Chow Chow? But that doesn't matter, just because dogs are considered pets in parts of North America, and Europe, where there's no need to eat dogs, doesn't mean such standard must be maintained through out the world. ps dogs are yummy. excellent meat fibers, without gaminess.
@morninghope111 ай бұрын
What's the problem eating dogs? If you are against eating dog, you should stop eating any live stock then. Same idea. However, I do think that if you grew attached to an animal aka raise them as pets whether it's pig or dog or any other animal, then yes as they are like extended family and you shouldn't eat them.

Most of your comments are fair and true. However, there are still some misconceptions on China. Chinese do eat dogs. Particularly in the old days. It is just like the westerns eat horses or donkeys. In China, there is a saying that all living things with their back facing the sky are edible. (So, dogs, rats, insects and many others are edible and are delicious good food, believe it or not).

Big deal! Not all people in China eat dog meat but there are some percentage of them do eat dog meat. Why do make big issue about when many south east Asians also eat. Now don't be surprise if I tell you about India which have up to 39% vegetarian population and have small percentage of non vegetarian people in India who eat dog meat openly in north eat India and there is nothing to lie about it, I am from India. I know. every culture is deferent from other and so is their food. Beside who eats what and why is nobody's business. If somebody don't like, don't eat, nobody is forcing anybody. But be honest about it's there out in open you can find selective restaurants in China who serve dog meat and also in south east Asia and northeast India.,😂 Don't know what you are trying to prove.

When talking about the freedom in China, it means that China is not that free compared with those advanced and democratic contries. It refers to the degree of control exerted by state/government over society, and in this term China is obviously an authoritarian regime, so this means China is not that free. Also the freedom of speech is definitely a part of freedom, I have no idea why you say it's not necessarily. (BTW you do agree that China has no freedom of speech?). You might have experienced the lockdown in Shanghai last year. Did you feel free at that time? Do you think enforcing the strict zero-policy was resonable, regardless of people's rights and freedom? I used to live in Shanghai, and I agree with you that Shanghai is one of the best cities in China. You are lucky that you live in Shanghai, almost the most open, advanced, civilised city in China. But it's just Shanghai, and doesn't represent whole part of China.
China had a tradition of eating dog meat two thousand years ago. At that time, most of the West was still in a tribal society, so they had no right to criticize others for what they ate. Norway and Japan also ate dolphins and whales. I don’t see these animal protection organizations come out to bark😂
