Agree completely. Don't EVER hook to a receiver without checking on the weight rating of it. That receiver was probably rated to pull 8k-10k at the very most. That wasn't ever going to be a suitable recovery point for this situation since that RV is probably thirty to forty thousand pounds.
@richardbause2453
@richardbause2453 5 ай бұрын
Observation: If they were first lifted from the rear axel and filled in the holes, maybe even swung it over alittle to some firmer material,then go to the front and lifted it from the axel adding just a little power when the pulling started ,then the damage might of been too severe. Doing things "gently" could result in a better outcome.🤔

We don't think we would have gotten out without your help. You were a blessing and a miracle to show up as you did - giving. your time, talents and resources without asking anything in return. When we showed up out of the blue to ask for help, you didn't hesitate and said you would be there in a few minutes. You came back TWICE to help. even early Sunday morning, with all of your massive equipment - even when that meant taking time away from your families. AND then you took us up in your Black Hawk helicopter for our grandson's birthday! WOW! Thank you for that incredible experience, your huge generosity and your big hearts. It is inspiring. Please don't do this "swing it" stuff. In this video, there was several situations you created, maybe because of lack of planning. You might have: -Planed for an exit, before having the RV in tow. -Inspected the tow-hitch, so maybe you have decided otherwise. -Used radios, so maybe the parking break lock could be avoided. -Stopped at first chance to re-rig, to then exit out the best way. -Correct materials to have under the outriggers and could rest the RV on, so you could safely re-rig. -Secured the RV, so it could look safe to crawl under, to attach to the axle. Sorry, but this video looked lacy, and we all know you can do better.

In the beginning of the vid he says that the owner had some help attempting recovery before Dave and crew showed up and that he didn’t create the damage you see. The receiver did get pulled off, but it’s entirely possible it was failing before Dave attempted a kinetic pull. Judging by the damage beforehand, it’s a high possibility.

They obviously took "wrecker" to heart. American Eagles are million dollar motor homes, they're top end. It's hard to believe the owners sat in it oblivious to the fact it was being destroyed.

There's a certain point in recovery, where 'getting it out' is a whole lot better than leaving it stuck. What other/better ways could you think of to get it out? It's not like you're gonna sling it with some rotators 20x attempting to drive it out.

Probably why they weren't charged. I watch a program called Trucking Hell (which deals with Heavy Duty/HGV recovery in the UK including vehicles the same size/weight as that RV) in various scenarios (including stuck in Mud) and I don't recall one episode where they just continuously yanked a vehicle like that.

I’m asking the same question a lot seem to have asked. Why the kinetic pull when a static seems like a safer / less damaging option? Your rig wouldn’t have gotten stuck. Potential less damage to the RV. I’m not a heavy off road recovery guy, but from a physics stand point it makes more sense.

Idea: you guys deal with sunk tires all the time so why not get a big stack of aluminum military airdrop pallets? They can be modified and placed under vehicle tires to drive on or used as sleds to drag to better ground.

We have carried many sheets of 1 inch plywood on a trailer for jobs like this one. Lifting it and putting it on a couple sheets lined up in a path back to hard pack works for cement mixers. Lifting it a little with your riggers up and pulling at the same time sometimes helps. Of course no bungy effect doing this.

My dad, buried a DC-6 catapillar if I remember right, in an area that was a drain field for a school. I've got pictures of where they had tractors, trucks, etc lined up trying to pull it. An old guy watched them for awhile until they wore themselves out. Then he told them to go get a bunch of railroad ties, and chain it across the front of the cat, and drive out. The tracks pulled the ties down and under, and the cat came out easy peasy. Sometimes, just need an old guy grinning and sitting up on a hill, to give you a solution.

You need to build a recovery sled/skis that you can lift things onto and tow out of that sand/mud. You could lift the wheels up and place the skis under the wheels, strap them down to the skis, and then run. Spread the load over much larger square footage. Even just running it down the centerline of that motorhome would get it up out of the dirt.
