I have been riding these Powell Nano Cubic wheels for the last 3 months now and I've been absolutely loving them BUT lately I have come across one BIG PROBLEM with these wheels that I try and fix in this video...

the dragon formula certainly does stick on metal, I experienced this too. its not unbearable and they are perfect for street, but actually in the park I prefer spitfire as well, since they slide better.

Had a pair of dragons for a while, and I liked them. I don't like how slow they are though. When my board got stolen out of my car, I bought some formula 4's for my cruiser so I still had something to skate with. Spitfires or O.J.'s and that's it. O.j.s more for cruising though.

It can't be a big problem if it's only for bluntslides. I've got Dragon formula 93A first time they got out and I love them for the streets. Then I got nano-cubics 97A and it already felt much harder compared to previous ones. A few days ago I got nano-cubics 93A, not really broke them in. There's no way that I'd ever go full time on harder wheels just to get a few tricks in my late 30s. If needed for specific tricks, I'll put the harder wheels just for a session.
@LeonPaxton
@LeonPaxton 6 ай бұрын
The wheels are amazing, that's the only problem that I have come across with them over the whole 3 months of skating them. The 93a might be your sweet spot then dude, it definitely does help your overall session with the impact absorption too. I think a lot of people over look that aspect when they think about skating softer wheels!

@@LeonPaxton facts, I think about speed on rough surfaces. If you like to "GO FAST" and you skate a lot of lines with crazy concrete rocks and obstacles in your way. (93a-87a) all day. I asked the manager of SPITFIRE to make some 93a NEW FORMULA, but with the Core 101a from the Sapphire Series, basically re release a wheel like the sapphires. Radial or Radial Full Or Conical Full 93a, 101a core. makes skating street so fun, you get the absorption of the 93a Formula but keep your pop.

I love the Bones X formula (same as Powell Dragon) in the 99 version, X97 was just a bit too sticky for me as well. What I notice with the X's is they hang on pretty tight until they let go and then damn do they GOOOOO. So it's a bit of a learning curve on anything with a lot of wheel contact like noseslides /ledge boardslide since you have to charge hard into it to be sure of breaking loose and then be prepared to keep balance when it suddenly goes from sticky to greasy and your board takes off. But if you can roll with that quirk they will go much longer, faster on less wax once you're loose than anything else I've ridden. X97 will break loose and go just as fast too but it just takes a fraction too long and hard to commit to so I usually anxiety bail vs risk getting pitched forward. So maybe give the X99's a shot some day.
@LeonPaxton
@LeonPaxton 6 ай бұрын
I haven't tried those ones yet but I figured they would basically be the same 97a dragon formula lol Damn, I can see that! You won't know wether to lean into it or lean back for it lol That would probably mess with my head a lot too

@hydroplainsdrifter
@hydroplainsdrifter 6 ай бұрын
They all seem to go roughly the same once they start sliding but the softer ones (and wider) hang on a bit stronger and longer before they go, too long for my taste really. But the X99 breaks pretty quick as well as having great grip up until that point so it doesn't slip out at random. If you try them avoid the wider shapes like the V6 since it amplifies the grip, probably why the Andy wheels stick so much, V5 shape is cool.@@LeonPaxton

i got a complete off fb marketplace for $40, real deck, indy forged hollow 139s, bones stf v2 53mm. Not crazy about the wheels, they're skinny tablet shape, like shopping cart wheels. i had an old set of bullet wheels from the '90s, more similar to a spitfire classic shape maybe. i was skeptical bc of how old they are, but they actually feel pretty good. they are worn to about 54, and they feel like about 97a. they seem like they might be likely to flat spot, but we'll see. the stfs felt ok, but wasn't digging the shape. they were marked as 103a and they skated ok and locked in well, but were a little prone to chunking/shredding like ojs. i have other wheels if the bullets don't work out, i just wanted to see how they felt.

I'm asking because I have a set of ventures bought on 2I, a year or so ago I set them up and the bushings were hard as wood. Bought pivot cups and bones bushings and they worked like in the past. Meaning being venture they don't really turn😂

@@azazelreficulmefistofelicu7158 they don't seem harder, they actually feel pretty good other than seeming like they might flat spot. i have some oj2s from the '80s 97a and the bullet wheels feel very similar. i do have some bones wheels about the same age as the bullets, mid '90s, and they are super hard, they almost feel icy trying to powerslide. idk if that's an effect of time or if they were always like that, but it's not ideal. they are skateable, just have to be mindful. they are really small and wide like 45x45mm

I'm not interested in Skating "1" all around "wheel" I don't see myself Being able to skate just SPITFIRES 99a. More Power to whoever does. I ride about 5 different Sets of wheels, All for different Reasons. If you Skate rails, or do nose/tail or Blunt slides on Anything you need at min "99a" to not stick a lot. 101 is Ideal. But I don't skate Rails Or Park really! I skate Street, Ledges, Curbs, Gaps, Stairs, Hills, Ditches, Natural transition spots, DIYS. So For me 97a to 93a is a Great Range of Softness. But I can say that People over "Emphasize: Slide-ability in Wheels", its not The only thing that matters. For me its more about do they skate right "out the bag" new, do they preform well in certain atmospheres better than a typical 99a. Or Does this Certain Brands "99a" perform better in certain "Concrete Scenarios" Great job Riding these 3 months, You should really just skate street with them, and give them a second try! maybe skate street 3 months now in those broken in ones, and make a second Video. Use Em for Skating Sketchy Spots, Its what I use them For.

Haha yeah I'm finding the same man. There are so many different durometers, shapes and sizes! That's very true. These wheels are going to stay with me for any rough spots I need to hit but for the moment I'm riding the 97a Bones X formula and they have been sliding way better than the 97a Nano Cubics!

@@LeonPaxton nice to know. I really wanna try them. Next. I’m on the 99a X-formula Bones 54mm. They slide really well. Super similar to the Bones STF formula 99a. A lil smoother I’d say with same slide, 🛝

The biggest problem is that it sells bad. I literally didn't see it one time on someones board.

It’s not a frontside Blunt it is more like of a over back tail slide!!! ✌🏼

Haha I always say that too, I can hold it up properly so it's more of an 'over tail' 😂

absolutely - best wheel if you skate park, to me, is spitfire f4. I mostly skate curbs and do boardslides (even at the skatepark) so the AA wheel is the PERFECT “everything” wheel FOR ME. but for someone at your skill level, I’d go with spitfires all day. 🔥🤙🏼🛹 also interesting park never seen one with rough tile ground like that
@LeonPaxton

Yeah dude, formula four is unbeatable! Definitely agree man 🙌🏼 It's definitely interesting. It's not that it's rough, they just made it to feel like a legit street plaza so it's just more coarse than a typical new skatepark ground
