A lot of our military bases are just supply depots that would come in handy if and whenever conflict broke out near them. They also serve as rapid deployment bases with airfields so that troops and equipment can fly in at quick notice. My point is that not all of them are massive bases like Ramstuhl in Germany is or Bagram in Afghanistan was.

I am from Chicago. Love it! As far as immigration goes, you are quite correct the we like to pick the immigrants that we want. To us that means legal immigrants. We don't like people breaking the law to come here. A great way to immigrate is to graduate from an American university. My wife is from China and her nephew graduated with his Masters degree in Boston and now has a green card and a great job. My wife and I met in China but now she is a proud American citizen. @@chadtravis7832 no. Like almost every country on Earth, becoming a citizen is a process of integrating you into a new, foreign culture. When people break the law and skip that, it is a very bad thing that almost gurantees that you aren't here to integrate into our society. Most of the time, it's all about getting a quick, good paying job so they can ship the funds back to their home country. Not specific to America, this leeching process is looked down upon.

Some of the highest incomes in the United States are earned by immigrants or first Generation citizens of Asian descent…but the way you worded it makes it sound like all Asian immigrants are better off. This is not true. Also, as another commenter pointed out, Judaism is a religion, not a description of a country or continent of origin…there are plenty of very wealthy people/families in the United States who represent various faith traditions as well as atheism.

When they said the metro NYC area, that goes beyond the city itself. 8:14 Here in Texas we have few problems with Mexican immigrants. I think you are confusing illegal immigrants & those smuggling drugs to bring weapons back to Mexico. Immigrants are completely different. 10:14 The US will consider the poor immigrants still but it isn't a large number percentage wise (except for Mexico). I have seen some from eastern Europe waiting to go thru customs. It was pretty sad to see some of them at the time on our flight from Poland. We met a family on the plane from Albania. My best friends dad moved their family from Thailand (to the USA) like 30 years ago, but he was some kind of engineer. I’ve never experienced it, but I have heard our immigration policy is pretty difficult if you aren’t “high value”… which makes sense. Also, Canada and the USA have (effectively) an open border; largest on the planet. There wouldn’t be a great reason for a Canadian to move to America unless it was for work, or family; they can come and go as they please, basically. Loved living in Rome for a couple months back when I was in high school. Hope I can bring my wife to Italy some day.

If you look at the immigration policy of every country today, you will find that most countries try to pick and choose who they allow to enter. That's not just an American trait. If you're looking historically though, there was a lot of racism involved in immigration policy in the US, and I suspect if you research it, you will find that is the case in much of Europe and North America, among other places.

America is a nation of immigration. That being said, most Americans would like to know who is entering our country not people who cross our borders illegally. We don't know if people crossing illegally are here for work or for more nefarious reasons such as drug or human trafficking. Undocumented aliens are also exploited more for cheap labor than a person who is here legally. We are a very diverse people but if you come to New York you'll find people from every nation and cuisine from every nation. BTW, the best Italian food in the US can be found in NYC and its surrounding environs.

“They like to pick the immigrants they want” Isn’t this the same with every country? Don’t you want to admits the most likely individuals to assimilate to society and are the most likely to make a significant contribution to the success of the nation? I don’t get people that think borders shouldn’t exist. We are a sovereign nation with our own interests. Mexico is a terrible country with all the opportunity and still they fail. Would you want enough people from that country where they start to have enough influence to change the country? Most of them would have an authoritarian government and would have themselves be dependent on that government. They same thing they just left. Americans have legitimate concerns about mass immigration from Mexico and other 3rd world countries. In the US the people have the power and if you change the demographic enough the country will change. Perhaps in a way you don’t want it to. Do you want the USA to become broke when they have the worlds second largest nuclear arsenal? Do you want a country like North Korea have the power the US has?

There have been so many restrictions put on immigration in the past 40 years which really messed things up…so much so that it is next to impossible for anyone who is not a millionaire to legally immigrate to the U.S. if they are not asylum seekers. The only way a non wealthy person can hope to immigrate to the United States is to come here on a student visa and get married to a citizen. And even then, the EASIEST WAY, is quite difficult, takes years, and marriage is no guarantee that one will not get deported during the process, even when there are children involved.

Australia doesn't have any land borders, and the island countries that are close enough for small boats, don't have large populations. So they only get people who have the resources to book passage on a commercial passenger boat, or a plane. These, as a general rule, are typically also the people who have the resources to jump through the proper legal hoops, fill out the correct paperwork, wait for their visa to arrive, find a legitimate place to stay, look for work if they are legally allowed to do so, etc., i.e., the sorts of immigrants who don't cause a lot of problems, because they mostly know how to do the things they need to do. I'm not saying they don't have any problems with immigrants at all, because they do. (Immigrants from mainland China, in particular, have an unfortunate tendency to think that Australian laws and social norms don't matter.) But it really isn't the same as the US border crisis. Australia doesn't have thousands of unaccompanied minors showing up with no place to go, for example.

In usa Till 1965, only europeans were allowed to immigrate in the usa with a nation based quota system. For non europeans quota was very low. After 1965 immigration act, country based quota system was abolished and preferred any skilled workers from any nation. That led to huge increase in asian Chinese philipino indian and other non Europea population and that has led to European white population in usa from 80% in 1960s to 59% now. Also because overall population has almost doubled so percentage will go down because of it

There is a lot of BS factor in Health Care costs. Starting off with government spending they mean Federal government but it's our States that are responsible for such. Think EU vs Italy, the EU doesn't spend a lot but Italy does. Our States are your countries. 2nd, most of us have health insurance. I had a major operation this year. Cost? Well there are two different numbers. The hospital billed my insurance over $300,000 dollars, but accepted the $86,000 the insurance paid. Critics use the $300k numbers, but the actual is FAR less. Then there is the law that requires hospitals to treat anyone who walks into it, insurance or not. So those costs have to be paid by the paying customers. Many of the walk ins are illegal migrants (now in the millions). That is a huge load on our medical system but also our schools, etc. Technically, our Constitution (amendments 9th and 10th) forbids the federal spending on health care. Like so much, the government does what it wants to even after our Supreme Court rules against doing so.

The 1 million is the number of immigrants that entered with permission. This doesn't include the number that entered without application which is 2 to 3 times as much every year. The media today in the U.S sadly is often very controlled by corporations and its reporting can be extremely biased. Speeches are often not represented truthfully and mischaracterize as a result the viewpoint of voters. A very often repeated speech line is, "Mexico is sending their worst." That was represented to mean Mexicans are the worst. This is not what was said. The meaning of Mexico I understood as being the Mexican government .. and the interpretation was that the government of Mexico has a foreign policy of exporting criminals to the U.S because its southern border is unregulated. The U.S is extremely lucky .. its system is based on the British model and so benefited from ideas like the Enlightenment, free markets, the schism with the Catholic Church, and property rights. The Spanish speaking Americas had a huge disadvantage because they had a model imposed upon them by Spain ... which had just freed it self from Moorish control in 1492 which meant that the church and aristorcracy controlled the political system. The people of Mexico , central America and south America have had economic opportunity denied to them as a result even today. I don't know anyone who is anti-hispanic .. I think the issues about immigration have nothing to do with race they have everything to do with the adults of the US trying to responsibly manage the well being of the society our children will live in.

every country chooses who can live within their borders. Try immigrating to another country. Maybe the EU is easy, but it's not easy to immigrate to another country.

The problem is illegal immigration causes people applying for legal citizenship to be put on a wait list for 10 to 20 years that's why this system is so badly broken but they lead you to think it's because they don't want certain populations they just want to make sure everybody has a fair shot

I'm an Italian-American, My father was 100% Italian (Sicily & Naples), my mother is 50% Italian (Rome), and as you know from visiting the US, the American people are very welcoming and friendly. With the exception of business visas, the reason we have restrictions on immigration is not because of how much money the immigrant or origin country has, but what kind of ideas, education and way of thinking different nationalities have, it just so happens those things result in better economies. When the biggest percentage of European immigrants came to the US based on US population at the time, starting during the reconstitution period starting in the late 1860's (post US Civil War) through the beginning of the Great Depression in late 1920's, they wanted to leave behind authoritarian governments and people divided by different classes based on wealth, family or who they knew politically. When they got here, they wanted to take part in American life, such as religious freedom, freedom of speech, freedom to start a business & build personal wealth, and they wanted to learn the language and take part in American culture, which is known as assimilation, but at the same time keep their proud heritages & cultures, but add it to the American culture. People seeking to bring the same failed ideas that causes their country to be impoverished or tose creating class warfare were not wanted. That is the problem today, much of the people immigrating from Latin American countries, which is all the countries south of the US southern border, want to come to America for financial opportunity only, they don't try to learn the language and they bring down wages by taking lower wages for skilled work, being paid under the table without paying taxes. Americans can't compete because of the cost of living because they're paying taxes.

I'm late to comment and don't expect a reaction, but I'm in Dallas and Texas has had a huge influx of immigrants who have helped our country grow, this includes cheap labor from the south and lots of IT specialist from Asia. Size-wise, everything you hear about Texas is correct. You can drive for 8 hours from one part of the state to another, and still be inside the state.

Great videos. Sad to say, but you both know more about the United States than some of the people here these days. The country is quite divided.

If I can please allow me explain the immigration of the United States and I'm going to kind of give you a little bit of a analogy. Now you have your own home now do you want to just anybody walking into your house uninvited? I would say the answer to that is no. I have absolutely no problem with anybody coming into this country legally. You must come through the proper channels. If you don't then you are illegal and we have what's called vetting which means that it's like when you go to get a job and then they run background checks on you it's kind of along the same lines. And just since Biden has been the so-called president there is no such thing as immigration it's just a free-for-all right now and $100, 000 American citizens have lost their lives to illegal entering the country. I respectfully asked that you do some research and understand why countries have borders. There is an old saying that says fences make better neighbors and that is so true. Once again let me say what I said, I have no problem with anybody coming here legally and contributing to the United States and our society the majority of Americans I'm sure feel that way. I do enjoy these videos but I do want people from other countries to understand that when the United States is safe and strong then the rest of the free world and the world in general is usually much safer and much stronger. I said my peace God bless.

Well as an American, I must say you are correct about Americas political situation especially over the last five years under the Trump Republican administration. During which time a lot more resistance to immigrants, more hostile to foreigners, repugnant and bigoted, which is typical under any Republican rule. So if you ever plan to come to the U.S. I would suggest visiting states that are not under Republican governors, or during a Republican controlled White House administration. You would find the people in those areas more hostile and resentful of foreigners, especially those of color, Latin, Asian or middle eastern. If you visit under a democratic administration or states that are democratically controlled, you will find the people much more friendly and courteous to any and all visitors. And yes, I feel ashamed at my countrymen on the other side of the political spectrum. But that is what is happening these past twenty years with the rise of right wing extremist authoritarianism.

While I share your dislike for the republican far right in America (I am a liberal leaning independent), I also find your overall statement to be rather ignorant and based mostly on conjecture. Totally shitting on half of the states and everyone that lives in them is, in and of itself, a pretty repugnant and bigoted attitude. For the most part, people are friendly in all states and treat visitors/tourists in a kind and courteous way. And if you want to talk cold hard statistics, residents and visitors alike are far more likely to be the victim of violent crime in democratic controlled cities. So your statement is deeply flawed and biased, and based on nothing. There are really only two kinds of people in the world, decent people and assholes. Spewing your own brand of bigotry and misinformation just straight up makes you one of the assholes right along with the rest. It doesn't do anything to counteract the destructive ideology of the alt right.. all it does is add more hate into the world, cause more problems and makes things worse.

Just look at the evidence against republicans; under their political umbrella are all the racist, bigoted, extremist groups that both the FBI and CIA have said are the greatest threat to our Democracy. Such groups as the NEO Nazis, White Nationalists, white Supremacists, the KKK and the racist evangelical right! All proven as murderous extremists. They all vote Republican always. There are no violent extremist groups on the left and nowhere has our intelligence agencies single out any one violent group on the left! Facts are facts! Their insurrection on Jan 6 proved everything I’ve said beyond doubt! That day revealed which party is the greatest threat to American society, democracy and our way of life. Libertarians and republicans along with the filthy right wing Independents all participated in the guilt of Jan 6th. All are complicit and prove they would all be threatening against any ethnic group from outside this country or any peoples of other religious persuasion.

I'm sorry to leave a negative comment, but you two are incredibly shallow, your knowledge does not extend very far, you let your prejudices blind you. I hope you do a lot more growing up before you even think about reproducing. The world already has too many shallow people in it. .My mother traveled all over the world, and was only a victim of a crime in Italy. But she still came home raving about the beauty of the architecture, the wonderful bounty of the food, and how most of the people she met were kind and beautiful.
