Retired ER nurse here. 1. NO emergency room can refuse to treat you ... with or without insurance. It's a HUGE violation and the hohospital would be fined $75,000 2. Depending on the reason you're treated will dictate the cost. 3. You WON'T be arrested 4. You can set up a payment plan ... you can pay as little as $25 per month, so long as you make payments no one will say a thing. 5. Hospitals are mandated by law to provide "indigent care" ... to those who can't pay. My old hospital used to provide $300 million a year in free health care 6. They won't hold you hostage if you can't pay. 7. Little known fact, if the bill isn't astronomical. Tge ER will give a 50% discount for cash or credit 8. It's best to get travel insurance with medical coverage

When you think about New York, remember that New York City and the rest of New York are very different. It's like going to Dallas and thinking you've seen Texas.

I can tell you that will not happen. The United States doesn't turn you away if you can't afford to pay. They will take care of you no matter what!!!!

I just moved from Colorado to New York this past weekend and it was a 29 hour drive. From Colorado to California is 15 hours. You never realize how big this country is until you have to drive it.

A Texan here, and a recommendation I would suggest before coming would be to familiarize yourself a little with some driving laws and the tendencies of the people that live in whichever state you visit. There are lots of videos that make it less tedious than reading a guide, and other people from foreign nations that visit have said it has helped them. This isn't an advertisement at all, but there is a family from Britain (Mr. H. and Friends) who have recently visited Texas and rented a car while they were here and they watched some videos to give them a condensed education about basic rules. Depending on the area and state(s) you plan to visit, driving rules and even unwritten rules (etiquette) of the drivers can vary pretty significantly. Sorry for the long comment, but I want your family to have the best time and experience here when you come, and most of all, be safe.

About the healthcare situation - yes it sucks here - BUT if you guys are here and something serious happens (God forbid) - DO NOT hesitate to go to the emergency room. They won't turn you away for not having money. They might send you a big bill afterwards but if you can't pay it, you can't pay it... nothing really happens other than possibly affecting your credit score but I am not even sure about that. Also a lot of hospitals have "charity" programs where if you can show how much money you make and meet certain lower income thresholds, you can have your bill either dramatically reduced or covered completely. So don't ever let the "it's too expensive" mindset or fear of getting hit with a large bill ever scare you away from getting emergency treatment if it is necessary.

I'm a touring musician from Indiana and I can say as someone who has driven all over the Eastern and Midwestern US that I have driven as much as twenty hours to do a show in central Texas and eight of those hours was in Tezas itself. If you drive non stop from NYC to LA only to stop for gas and restroom it'd take four days.

Definitely look in to travel insurance if you come to the US. I was in a car accident in 2003 and spent three days in the ICU. Between the helicopter transport and three days of ICU it was over $300,000. Insurance companies are the reason medical costs are so crazy here.

You can’t be turned away from an emergency room at a hospital. If you go in there with a serious injury, they will help you they’re not going to just turn you away because you can’t make a payment. Don’t worry about that.

The reason healthcare is so expensive in the US is because of the research we do and then share with the rest of the world. We basically subsidize the entire globe with new medicines and medical equipment. We also have tons or people who come to the US and can't pay for it. And we have laws that people can't be turned away from hospitals for not being able to pay. So when we go to the doctor, we are paying for all the people who can't pay.

I wouldn’t worry about having to use the US healthcare system if something happens while visiting. You could apply for some sort of hardship assistance, but it’s not like you’d get arrested for nonpayment. Not sure how credit ratings work in Slovakia, but besides that, you may get an annoying call from a collections agency. Just tell them not to call again and they’re not supposed to. And yes, we have excellent healthcare. Rich people from countries with government funded healthcare travel here for care because the wait times in their countries are so long, you could be a goner before getting the care you need.

Insurance companies are a huge problem with how much we have to pay for health care. There is travel insurance that you should look into when you really start planning. You should show Kat the videos of the state parks and best beaches. An RV is a great idea because you can drive and live out of it but that can get REALLY expensive as well. There's a youtuber, Eva zu Beck, who has a video or two of renting an RV for traveling the US as well as just traveling in her Range Rover or similar car that you should check out.

Hope your whole family can make it here to the US soon, I think you will love it. You should be able to check with your US embassy and they can help you know what types of insurance you will need. You mentioned an RV, there is a young woman from Poland who has a channel on KZfaq, can't recall the name or channel but I am sure you can find it through a search. She spent several months in the US driving from Texas to Alaska. She rented an RV for two days and posted a video about her experience. You might want to look at that as it discussed the costs. The country is huge, I have driven from Michigan to Nevada several times and the trip takes about 2 twelve hour driving days. So keep that in mind, places are not as close as you might think. To fully experience America, you might want to travel through several states. You could go along the east coast from New York to Florida. Or you could do Texas to the Midwest or some other varient. Best advice is plan well as there is much to see.

And your American subscribers are so generous and you seem much happier. Living in Slovakia is still better than living in South Africa. There are pros and cons everywhere in every country. Ok, as a TEXAN from San Antonio, I can tell you that if you find San Antonio on a TEXAS map, it’s deep in the heart of TEXAS and if you want to drive wherever out of state, it’s HUNDREDS of miles IN ANY direction just to get to the state line! It feels like that’s half trip distance wise because it usually is! Ha Ha! Our state is HUMUNGOUS! Thank goodness we literally have the best roadways in the world. Not an exaggeration at all. Our highway system is second to none because we Need It! I love this place with all my heart. I am TEXAN! 😁👍 San Antonio also has about two and half million people by itself!

I’m a bit suspicious of the 500,000 dollar medical bills for a snake bite. But medical bills are quite high. I’m from Texas. It is against the law for a hospital to turn you away if you don’t have insurance or money. Unless it’s a private hospital. County hospitals will be your best bet.

I’ve heard you can get really good travelers insurance before coming for your trip. Def. something to look into as part of the planning.

I live in Connecticut and have traveled unp and down the east coast, across to Ohio, went to San Francisco, also to San Antonio Texas. Love it

Most treatment in the US is top notch my wife had a failing liver due to autoimmune disease and they found her a liver within 6 weeks. she had the transplant and I got a call from the ER every 2 hours to update me. the waiting area was right outside the ICU and I was able to see her under sedation as she was being taken back. I was able to speak with the surgeon immediately following the surgery. University hospitals are by far the best ones to go to if you need help in the US most of them specialize in one thing or another. my wifes liver was completely covered by our insurance. her medications are all covered and we were able to get that through the University the hospital found a way to make it free of charge. so keep in mind our medical may be expensive but when you get treated in the US your chances of success are nearly 5 times greater with risky operations. the US is also the leading nation when it comes to laparoscopic surgery. stuff that use to be major operations can be done in a day now with a 2 inch incision.

If you're not into big cities and prefer the outdoors, I would actually suggest visiting states like Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, etc. over Texas. Go check out Yellowstone in Wyoming, Canyonlands, Moab, Zion in Utah, Grand Canyon in Arizona, etc. That would be a much more fun trip (especially by RV) than just Texas, IMO.

Our healthcare is top notch. I had ambulance, EKG, X-ray, the full work up plus prescription and it cost me $42 out of pocket. When I didn’t have a job and needed healthcare and an overnight stay, plus aftercare with 3rd degree burns it cost $0 as I was covered by state insurance. It was the same service as if I were rich. This is In Wisconsin

I live in NYC and we have so many people because we all live in buildings. When i was young I grew up in a 20 floor building and there were about 15 apartments in each floor. I know Jono doesnt like the city, hes more of an outdoors type of person but its nice to visit even if for just a weekend or a week depending on how much time you have. There's so many music venues, museums, shops, restaurants, zoos and parks for the kids, theaters, and much more and everything is accessible within a subway ride. I would only tell Jono to get ready because it does get hectic and thres A LOT people and your claustrophobia can trigger a bit lol. I would say pick Texas first, travel around the south and then on another trip of you hopefully have the chance visit the northeast NY, Boston, Vermont, Rhode Island, NJ, Pennsylvania. Its not as big as Texas or the south, although you will have to drive a lot, but its worth it, especially in Autumn when the leaves are changing color. Another thing is NYC is expensive, so goin down south might be a better option first to get to know how prices work in America and how to navigate financially better and then if you feel confortable coma back again. When I was a kid, my parents drove from North Carolina to California. I was very young so I don't remember most of the trip. Years later, my dad was talking about that trip & told me that it took him almost 3 days to drive through Texas (the widest part of the state). He drove about 8 hours a day, stopping for meals, fuel, & overnight stays in roadside motels. Back in the early 90's, My (ex) husband and I once drove from California to Pennsylvania. We took turns while the other slept so it was almost nonstop driving, with only meal breaks & refueling. We stopped for one overnight stay in Oklahoma (out of sheer exhaustion for both of us). The total distance was about 2980 miles (4795 km). We were in a rush to get to Philadelphia, so we didn't have the luxury of time to stop & see certain parts of this huge country. Luckily, our route took us through the northern part of Texas, called "the panhandle" which only took about one full day to cross.

Never be worried about being arrested in the US for owing money. It's illegal to be arrested for debt.

I’m from Michigan and went to my brothers university graduation ceremony in Houghton, Michigan in the upper peninsula from where we live in the lower peninsula and it took us 10 hours to get there. The U.S is definitely a big country. This was when I was a child as well and I couldn’t believe it.

It’s easy to think of driving to so many places, and you specifically mentioned Texas but always plan first. Example - I once lived in West Texas El Paso. My brother lived in Houston. Our sister lived outside Los Angeles, California. The distance from me to my brothers home, never leaving the state, was just 25 miles less than to my sister in California. That’s crossing New Mexico and Arizona before the desert in California to reach L.A. Plan trips carefully!

To put it in perspective, if you put the UK east to west in Texas you would still have to travel another 180 miles east to reach Louisiana. Slovakia to Croatia is like going from Wa DC to Mrtyle Beach S. Carolina .

Drivng around the US is exhausting and very time consuming. I lived in El Paso Texas (far west), my friend and i drove to Connecticut. We left early in the AM, drove all day, spent the first night STILL IN TEXAS. The next day, we drove all day and made it through about 5 states. We got to her parent's house by noon on the 3rd day. It seems easy, like "we can just pop over there", then you're stuck in the car for days.

Would be so glad to offer your family free place to stay for 3 weeks. PLEASE FAMILY COME TO MISSISSIPPI!

To give some more perspective on just how big this country is, I live in Cincinnati Ohio and my husband and I drive down to Florida for vacation. It takes around 15 to 16 hours to get from here to Sarasota, FL, which is roughly halfway down the state on the gulf side. I believe it can take nearly two days just to drive across Texas. There's a LOT of really cool places to see, so plan carefully! :)

There are many species of venomous snakes throughout the USA, and many species of non-venomous snakes such as Garter, King... but if you're in Southeastern and see snakes chances are they're poisonous such as Water Moccasins, and Rattlesnakes are definitely a don't play with or catch for fun thing. I heard young man say he enjoys catching snakes down by water so unless he knows what kind of snake it is he shouldn't mess with it.

I myself live several kilometers away from the nearest town, and that town is rather small. I go outside and see stars wild animals, trees etc.

My mother lived in Oklahoma City and got into a car accident. She was married to a physician and had excellent insurance but the cost was still HUGE. They charged her $1 for each Tylenol for example. They charged her for Kleenex , for everything!! God how I love Canada! 🇨🇦🖖🏻

In part almost every healthcare system in the world is operating solely because of America's system. Some get perks some get free healthcare but when you add up the taxes they gotta pay... it's not really free lol.

Most of our hospitals have a financial aid that will treat patients that are poor. With a sliding scale.

I was living in Texas and we decided to take a road trip to Colorado. It was going to take 14 hours to get out of Texas... before we even got to another state. NY, on the other hand is only about 7.5 hours from West to East.

Dont worry, Any city in the US that you visit, there will still be within a short drive,you'll be in the country or wilderness. There are state parks and forests that are thousands of acres. If you visit try a family travelers insurance. If you move get a good job that pays your families insurance.

You can not be arrested for a medical bill. Also you can not be denied treatment. You can go into any hospital and get treated and they will bill you. If you don’t pay it would be sent to collections. Being foreign nothing would happen.

Healthcare in the US is indeed expensive. I had a heart attack back in July and while I had insurance that covered almost all of the bill, if I didn't, the bill would have been over $200,000.00

My parents were on a camper trip (I think you guys call them "caravans") and as they were just exiting Canada back into the United States (Washington state), they saw two young men hitchhiking and picked them up. Turns out they were boys from Germany, heading to Los Angeles, California. They figured it to be about a 3 hour ride LOL... which would be 180 miles. My parents told them that going south, it would take 5 hours to merely traverse Washington state. And this on a very nicely maintained interstate freeway, and only if you don't stop to eat or sleep. Upon then entering Oregon (my state) it would require AGAIN 5 more hours of driving south without stops. Only THEN would one cross into California... with a mere 700 miles left to finally reach Los Angeles. These two Europeans just had no clear idea of the vast distances here in America.

If you live outside America and travel to America ... BUY "Travel insurance" and that WILL take care of ANY Medical Needs you'll have. We Americans DO have Health Insurance so our Medical Needs don't destroy us. ie ... If you hospital stay costs 300k you the patient don't pay that amount. You pay a small percentage of that and the Insurance pays the rest.

We live in NorthWest Illinois, about 3 hours west of Chicago. We also have a home in Florida, near Clearwater. It is almost 1300 miles, or about 18 hours (if you didnt stop) . When we make the trip south, we generally leave at 5pm. I drive all night and arrive around 2-3 pm the next day. My point is this. One third of the trip is spent getting out of Illinois. It is 400 miles or 6 hours to the southern tip of Illinois at Paducah, Ky. it never ceases to amaze me that Illinois is 3 hours east to west, but 6 hours or more, North to South. I enjoy your videos, and hope your trip here this year is everything you had hoped. I am originally from Iowa, the largest producer of Hogs in the U.S., and i grew up on a hog farm. if you want some real good hunting and fishing, come up here to Gods Country and shoot corn fed venison as big as cows, pheasants, ducks, geese and turkeys. I’m someone who lives in a medium sized state (Wisconsin) and even for me from the southeast corner to the northwest corner of the state is about a 6.5 hour drive (~428 miles)!!! That puts into perspective how insanely large the USA is!

Here are the straight facts... we, the American people are the reason rates are so high. Simply put, so many doctors and hospitals have been sued over frivolous lawsuits that their insurance is outrageous. Medical schools are unnecessarily expensive, and urgent care cannot be refused to anyone based on ability to pay. So when you pay your medical bill, you are paying for the lawsuits, practice insurance, and nonpayment of others bills. This is not to mention Medicare and medicaide underpaying its bills.

I live in Washington state, and my health care costs aren't high. I'm married and have two kids. I think the most we have ever spent on any serious procedure was around $550.00. Our insurance is excellent. We also have good dental but in my opinion that is more expensive out of pocket. It truly depends on your job and what insurance you carry. There are so many variables when it comes to our health care system. Foreigners: Just get the travel insurance, and don't be skimpy on it. Prioritize your health always. Also, America is awesome. Don't ever believe the media and its scare tactics. They love to place fear and bias in people's minds. I have lived in 5 states, visited all 50 states, and have been to 11 countries and have noticed people are people. No where is perfect. America isn't as dangerous as the media wants you to believe. Remember, we are huge. We have tons of land and tons of people.... of course, our statistics in any category will be higher than most other countries. America is full of nice and yes, even smart people. We aren't like the kardashians or the kids of beverly hills, that's all hollywood imagry. We're just normal folks living normal lives.

The cities mentioned are actually much much larger. That is just the city limits population. New York metropolitan region is more than 20 million spreading over three states, LA is almost 20 million in a massive metropolitan region larger than many countries. Chicago is hovering around 10 million. Then there are lots of cities above the 5 million range. In extension, America has 9 of the 10 largest metropolitan regions in the world.

Jono, let me explain it to you, some friends and me came home for Christmas one year from Camp Pendleton between Los Angeles and San Diego. It took almost 29 hours at 55mph on our drive. And 23 hours of the drive was from El Paso to Dallas because we all were from the area. And that was only stopping for restroom, eats, and drinks while switching drivers and getting gas.

@Ms. Kat: I was visiting family in New York City. I was talking with my Aunt Beverly (God rest her soul) who lived in a 15 story apartment building then. She lived on the 7th floor, and said, "I don't know anybody below the 6th floor".

Just to give you some driving idea of America. I drove from Tampa, Florida to Los Angeles, California non stop and it took 42 and half hours. Now this is a cross country trip but driving places outside the Northeast is not a quick trip. To put driving in America into perspective, Tampa, Florida to LA, California is 2,526 Miles (4,065 KM) Paris to Moscow is 1,765 Miles (2,840 KM) El Paso, Texas to Houston, Texas is 745 Miles (1,198 KM) San Diego, California to San Francisco, California is 501 Miles (806 KM)

Healthcare in the U.S. isn't cheap. One thing to keep in mind, though, about how much of the GDP is spent is due to research. Billion-dollar companies spend hundreds on millions trying to make the next breakthrough so that they can make even more money. The percentage of GDP isn't just out-of-pocket spending by citizens on healthcare.

If you going camping,fishing,hunting etc. Take the time to look up the dangerous animals, reptiles,and insects in each state you go to. Gives you a good idea of what things not to touch, and be on the look out for while you're out in nature.

You don’t have to worry about being seen at a hospital in the States like most countries

You cannot be arrested over a medical. You may be sued, but that is very rare if ever.

US Healthcare is the "most expensive" because it is NOT subsidized by the government. Making all healthcare payments either 1) "out of pocket" or "cash on hand" or 2) Through insurance companies. So, any concerns can be easily avoided by looking into getting insurance through multiple options. However, it should be noted that BY LAW if you were to enter a hospital for emergency reasons, they WILL HAVE TO TREAT YOU. However, after you are "stable and well enough to travel" they may either release you, or move you to another location for further treatment. So, if you were to break a leg, you would be treated in the hospital and sent home after you had a cast put on you and billed "afterward" for the treatment. Meaning that you wouldn't be required to "pay up front" to be treated, and if you were it would be something that would be done by an "emergency care center" and not an official "hospital". It should also be noted that while our healthcare is expensive if you can't afford insurance, or treatments NOT covered by your insurance, it is also one of the HIGHEST QUALITY healthcare systems you can access at any time. So, while it may be "for profit" since it isn't subsidized, it IS pretty darn good overall.

Yes the medical care is usually top notch and very little wait times. I had a relatively minor surgery (non life threatening) when I was younger and I was in the hospital within like a week or so to get it done. I know I didn't wait months for it to get done like in some European countries. But then again, I don't go to a doctor unless I need a doctor which has been years so it might have changed.

To avoid any health insurance problems, just buy travel insurance, and you'll be fine.

To put it plainly, our healthcare system sucks. An emergency trip to the hospital ended up costing me $26,000.00. I had no insurance and I qualified for no financial assistance. Six months later after getting insurance I had to go in for day surgery. I went in at 6am and left at 7pm. The cost was $53,000.00. There's no way I can avoid bankruptcy. I'm glad to hear people think well of the US but don't be fooled. Everything here isn't good and profit is an almost universal motivation.

Travel Insurance when you come to America. It might be different now but I paid for travel insurance when my family went to Florida, I am from Canada, years ago, a doctor came to the hotel room when my son dove into a pool and hut his back in the shallow end.

You can get Vacation Health Insurance. If you have a good Insurance policy health is a lot cheaper. Back in 2006 I had a triple bypass. If I hadn't had Insurance it would have cost me $420k. With Insurance it cost $200.

The R.V idea is s great one. It is expensive however, you can stay at campgrounds which would allow you to meet a lot of people and expoetence a lot of the country. Additionally, campgrounds are like their own little xommunities im the summertime hosting lives music, Djs and movies, all summer long.

Guys, I was born/raised in south Texas. Grew up on a farm/ranch. Now I'm 65, retired military, and living in the Philippines. I go back to Texas for visits. Texans would love you guys there! Actually Dad, you LOOK like you're from Texas! And when they hear your accent, they would think, "That's cool!" You would have a great time in Texas, but NO WAY you can see it all in one or two days. Not even a week or more! You gotta plan your trip to see certain places/cities.

Just remember, if you hear a rattlesnake's rattle sound, it's ready to strike. Don't reach for it. Lol. Also, stop where you are and look for the sound. Move away slowly. If you don't move towards it, it will move on.

One illness in the US, if uninsured, could destroy you financially. The medical care is first class, but the high costs are due to corporate greed. Hospitals are for profit.

So total migration is 2,400,000 each year. 10:00 The big problem with the insurance is you are used to national insurance whereas in America it is still individual. So once you leave your country, you just don't have insurance unless you go to another country that has national provided insurance. You would be charged and billed for medical expenses but you will return to your country so you don't technically have to pay it. Unless you plan to come back to America. You won't be arrested or anything and they are not out looking for you at the airports either. You will just have a bill in your name at the hospital that goes unpaid. Tell them to send the bill to your address and you can choose to pay or not. You are outside the country so they can't really do anything to make you pay. 12:00 A lot of the costs are for medicines. That's why it is always a big political issue every 4 years where we talk about Big Pharma and how they influence the government.

Poor people here use the hospitals for healthcare constantly. Hospitals cannot turn you away. Also, our medical care is top notch. We also fund a ton of research, develop vaccines and other treatments (that we share with the rest of the world)….that stuff is not free. It cost a ton of money. So they either tax us way more or our cost is more. Either way, it has to be paid for.

Would love to see you take an interest in Canada. It’s so beautiful here and the people are very friendly. There are only 38 million Canadians. I live in Saskatchewan. 🇨🇦🖖🏻

Emergency rooms can't deny service for emergencies. Foreigners usually just don't pay their bills, same for illegal aliens. Secondly, stories about $500k bills for things like snake bites usually leave out that the county will usually pick up the bill if the person doesn't have insurance. Thirdly, people pay for their medical bills one way or the other, whether it's directly, with insurance, or with higher prices ans higher taxes

Don't be afraid of that! You will be taken care of very well and will not be turned away. Some people exagerate the health insurance issue in the US and just want to complain. Health insurance is readily available if you want it and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either.
