I learned to drive a tractor on a G6 Moline in about 1965 when I was 14 yrs old. It was a big (for it’s day) tractor and very basic. No frills, not even a tach. Didn’t really need a tach. I think wide open was about 1800 rpms. We had 2 of them and they ran for years with little problem. I also started working for a Moline dealer not long after that. The biggest issue we had after White took them over was getting parts. Up until then they were good solid tractors.

We used G-1000 in the 60's in PA and pulled 7 oliver plows. We plowed a thousand acres per year with that old girl. We had some trouble with rear, clutch slipped always. The torque was amazing, when the throttle was open something was going to give but not the motor.

Dad first used a Vista G-1000 to pull a 6 bottom plow. Grampa drove the John Deere 4020 plowing with a 4 bottom plow. My brother bought an Oliver 2155 and by then we were no longer plowing. Just disking. I usually drove the 1900 Oliver with FWA pulling either a disk or field cultivator. The farm was sold years ago. Now I think my brother only has the Vista G-1000.

Man that sounds good! We still use old Molines on our farm out here in Oregon. We run a 1965 M670 and a 1967 M670 super, both diesels. Our primary loader tractor is a Jetstar 3 and we still run a 1950 U around. Our big Moline's are down for the count currently with our G1355 having broke the shift forks, our G1000 with a blown rear tire and low oil pressure and our G706 with a tired engine and a worn out clutch. So in their place we run a couple White 2-155s and a 2-135.

Hope you get your Molines going. I love seeing the old classic tractors still doing real work. My son keeps telling me that I should sell my old tractors and buy newer ones. I don't think so as long as I can get parts for them and keep them running. I'll keep working them.

My first tractor that I drove alone in the field was a 1960 MM G 6. I was 6 yrs old. Our neighbour told us years later he couldn’t figure out how we got the tractor to drive itself, he had to get close to see this little kid sitting on the seat. Pulled a 16ft discer, all I had to do was turn left, round n round. It had a hand clutch, I could pull it out ok, but couldn’t push it back in by hand, I had to put both feet on the clutch sitting on the seat and push till it clicked in. Those were the days…..

Interesting to see this: the concentration / mind on the job when working in difficult conditions. Could ( still can't fully ) understand WHY US farmers used drag plows on these large tractors instead of the Semi-integral ones for better Draft control. BTP: Have you any videos which actually demonstrate the common / everyday usage of Ford's LOAD-Monitor system and maybe comparisons with , say, Deere's Lower-Link and Massey's TOP-Link sensing for those larger semi-integral plows ? Cheers and thaks for posting.

I always liked pulling a drawbar plow , always seem to do a more uniform job . Also with the drawbar plow there was no adjusting the tractor tire to the furrow and a dual tire on only 1 side . We went from 5 bottom 3 pt hitch to 7 bottom drawbar plows mainly because we went to larger 4wd tractors .
@jamesbreithaupt5138
@jamesbreithaupt5138 2 жыл бұрын
There was another advantage of drawbar plows. We used to farm with 2 row equipment using a Ford 3000 tractor and a disk on heavy clay soil. When we broke ground, the disk connected to the liftarms would pull the tractor sideways and we would have to fight the steering wheel and ride brakes to keep it straight. With a larger tractor and a drawbar disk, we had a lot smoother ride. With a drawbar ploy, you have one center attachment point with even pull.

@@bigtractorpower thanks for the video. These remind me of my farming days as a teenager. I learned to drive on a 1972 Ford 3000, and we got a 1978 JD 2840 later followed by a used MF 1155 when we started farming more land. Our neighbors had Farmall Super C H and M, IH 806 856 1066 1466, Ford 8N 5000 6600, and Deere 4020 4630 and 8000 4WDs.

If you mean is he not doing so well because he’s using old equipment? He could probably buy and sell “modern” farmers who give a quarter million for the latest computer driven tractors. He can’t cover 5000 acres with his lineup nor does he need to to make a living. To each his own.

Just enjoying a tractor his grandfather bought new. This farm has modern AGCO tractors but enjoys running some acres with the classics.

I don’t know if I’d say rare, but they’re uncommon
