Fascinating! These glimpses into your operations deserve more time and explanation. Please consider putting something together that might help viewers better understand your missions and challenges. Love the launch and recovery system. Very cool!

Hello there. The problem with longer videos is trying to maintain the attention. That's why I try to show no more then 10 second bursts. I have been making these monthly videos for over 3 years and I am often asked to make them longer so I shall take your comments on board and maybe do a more documentary style video next trip. Cheers Graeme

Graeme, I think just some description of place and what was happening at the time, it gives some context. Most of us just enjoy the pictures :)

Would be an interesting video if you gave us a walk around tour of that ship, It don't look that big until you see it from the craft approaching for recovery.

Hello Over the course of the year I try to include as many parts of the ship as possible but a full tour may not be a bad idea.

Couple of questions please. The boats that you seem to be forever launching and recovering, are they powered by steerable water jets? Second, are you responsible for a single oil rig or do you cover more than one? Excellent video by the way, much appreciated.

Hello Peter. In the first half of the video the Daughter Craft (DC) are prop driven but we had a bit trouble with one of them so we swapped it with a jet boat (DC 431). Both types of DC are diesel powered twin engine. We look after 2 platforms that are just under 10nm apart. When they have men working over the side we must provide close standby cover which means keeping within 500 meters of the platform with rescue boat (FRC) and crew ready to go. This will usually be proveded by DC while the mother ship stays midfield. If both platforms require close standby then mother ship and DC will look after 1 each. Towards the end of our trip we moved to another field where we were looking after 3 platforms.

Thanks for the reply. I thought they might have been jet boats after watching one of them turning within its own length. Your videos are fascinating and always interesting.

It would add so much to understanding the experience! Thanks for your amazing work, both in front of and behind the camera! Cheers from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

I know nothing of seafaring terminology, but those twin wenchy things u attach to the DC's to suspend, hoist up & out, & back down into, the water, are quite interesting pieces of technology & must, certainly, make ur lives a wee bit easier daily.

Nice vid's. I love the sea. What do you think about swath ships in havy conditions. (Like the new dutch and german pilot vessels)? Be Save and have a good Watch, from Germany.

Mr R Thanks for the comment. I don't know much about swath ships they don't look like they are designed for heavy weather. A ship needs to be able to roll.

Another great one. is it a problem keeping the work boats secured when you are in heavy weather, it looks fairly open back aft?
@Bigwavemaster1
@Bigwavemaster1 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We have webbing straps and ratchets to secure our boats. It is not unheard of for them to be damaged in bad weather but is unusual if they have been secured properly.

Ahhh, OK. This reminds me of visitors to this area in the summer and beginning of Fall: They comment on how beautiful it is, how fortunate to live here etc. I just say “Thanks, enjoy!” with a smile while I’m thinking, “Come back in January...” You spend three months of the year frantically getting ready for the other nine. Rinse and Repeat.

Crazy good video!!! How long have you worked on the ocean? Were you ever afraid? I have a terrible fear if the ocean but these videos are helping me overcome, I may try a little outing with my sister in florida. Any advice on conquering a fear like this? How can fear be turned in to respect and love for the water. Take care and stay say! I'm a new subscriber so I'm trying to watch two videos a day, I just love them!

I’ve worked at sea for 37 years. Have I ever been afraid? Had some hairy moments, that’s for sure. As long as you know your vessel & crew are capable of handling the condition you should have nothing to worry about. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Don’t even think about the things that could go wrong.

At 11:26 it shows you are show somebody with pork and beans on their plate and toasted sliced bread with easy over eggs, it looks like. What I find very strange is you’re using a fork and butter knife to cut it up. On all the American maritime ships I sailed on, we would make a sandwich out of that. We would put mayonnaise on each slice of bread to start with. A full table spoon. Then a slice of cheese and you can use whatever kind you want. I like very spicy food so I put on jalapeño cheese. Then I put two slices of tomatoes then I put the eggs. Here, on our Merchant Ships, The vast majority of the time they order the XX LARGE 🍳 BROWN 🍳 🥚 EGGS. Which are the biggest eggs you’ve ever seen. I will put 1 Big Brownie as we call them. And it’s plenty big to cover the entire sandwich. I like mine cooked to what we call, HARD. This means after they make the egg easy over, they will pop the yolk let it run out a little bit. Then flip it over and then cook the yolk. So it doesn’t run all over my fingers when I eat my sandwich lol 😆. After each side is cooked for about 2 1/2 minutes apiece I put it on my sandwich. So there you have it. Bacon 🥓 /Lettuce 🥬 / Tomato 🍅/Egg 🍳/ Cheese 🧀 /Mayonnaise /bread 🍞 BLTEC Oh, Our sliced bread is big. The individual slices I mean. And I mean BIGGER! did your garden-variety White-slices. I love the very large slices of stone-ground brown heavy wheat loaves.
