I bought the 2022 Street Scrambler as a second bike. Love it! Country roads and even highway driving is fabulous. It makes a great traveling bike, even at 70 + mph it's smooth and responsive. Only downside is sitting in traffic on a hot summer day. The pipes get hot.

I think Triumph is shortchanging customers, considering the price. Those black stripes on the tank? Those are tape. Not paint. It used to be, not so long ago, that when you got different colors on a Triumph, it was all paint. Then, the all black engines are overdone on the Triumphs! It's cheaper to paint cases black, than to polish aluminum. Even the mirrors are black! The used to be chrome! They don't even equip the bike with chrome rims anymore. Black rims looks worse, and will show every bit of dirt and dust. The mark up on these bikes must be astounding. Made in Thailand. I bet the whole bike costs $5500 to build and they charge double what it cost to build it.

I had one earlier this year. Only kept it around six months. Looks lovely, sounds lovely but I found it gutless. Once you got to 60+ mph there didn’t seem much left. I know have a Tiger 900 GT and the difference in performance is huge.

Yeah once you get beyond that point it tapers off. 1200 could remedy that! Love the Tiger…

60+ and done, even 400x can do that

The 900 is upgradeable. Upgrade intake, exhaust, cam, suspension, etc. Shave some weight. People build the Scrambler 900s out to 90HP or so. I had a buddy that bought a used Tiger 800 for a song. He liked everything about it except for the reach to the bars. He sold it pretty quickly, and told me about it the next Saturday. When I asked why he didn't just put pivoting bar-risers on it, he didn't know what to say.

Can it scramble? Well there's scramble and there's SCRAMBLE! It all depends how high you set the off road bar. I've had two SS's and loved them but purely road use. I did a couple of VERY mild green lanes on my first one but even that had the suspension crashing and bottoming. They're way too heavy, plus they're just too NICE to ruin on the rough stuff. I also have an Enduro bike for off roading with 100kg less weight to carry around so maybe I'm being too critical but for me, the Triumph Scramblers make great road bikes. I've now replaced the SS with a new 1200 Scrambler but road use only. 😃👍

I would be willing to bet the new Scramber 400x would actually dust up on the old Scramber 900 in the dirt. The 400x has heiger ground clearnce and longer suspention travel in the front and rear and it's lighter. It's down on power and torque compaired to the 900 but I really do think the 400x would give it a run for it's money offroad.

You could quite easily have ridden a Gold Wing along that smooth, dirt byway! No the Triumph Scrambler 900 can't, or certainly, shouldn't scramble! It's too heavy, has a brittle plastic sump guard that doesn't guard the sump, the gear lever doesn't fold, the rear brake lever doesn't fold, the tank is made of steel, which is much easier to damage than a plastic tank, the standard suspension isn't up to the job and there's waaay too much easily damaged engine sticking out either side. Oh and the footpegs are slightly too far back, to make controlling it whilst stood up, comfortable or easy! The clue's on the side of the barrels, where it quite clearly says "Bonneville 900".. I've spent a long time modifying my Scrambler, which would make it far better off the beaten track than a standard one. But it's still next to useless! If I want to go off road, I use my old CCM Dual Sport, with its off road wheels fitted.

My only question is, which one had the more comfortable riding position?

Both were great, though the Scrambler allowed a little bit more movement on the seat (for obvious reasons). Though saying that, I'd still go for the Bobber!

Mind blowing. Never thought of an XE version. Honestly I found the stock suspension to be terrible on Aussie b-roads. Fine on dirt. Would love an XE set-up. That being said, running out of puff at 115km/h is a tad concerning. Wish it had more.

Give us what we want Triumph! It would be nice if it had a bit more guts up there, but that could be where the 1200 would slot in.

Nice enough looking bike but it’s far too expensive and ridiculously heavy for a “scrambler”. I owned a street twin for three years and the experience was not the best. Hopefully the new models will be better. Great review though.

What did you swap the 900 for ?
@user-rf9me7xm1w
@user-rf9me7xm1w 6 ай бұрын
@user-fv1576 Sorry for the late reply. I swapped it for a Yamaha MT 03. I must add that the Street Twin I had was the first generation (2016) and was only 54bhp. I’ve owned the MT for two years now and it suits my needs perfectly. It’s lighter, smoother, lower seat seat height, better built, more economical and a 100% more reliable than the Triumph. When the Street Twin was delivered to my home address, it had to be sent straight back due to an electrical fault. The dealer then kept it for two weeks, not the best start. When it was returned, further intermittent faults occurred due to the wiring loom being too tight over the headstock. There was a recall for this but the mod didn’t improve matters. Then bits started dropping off, namely, the e-clip securing the side stand bolt and the magnet which activates the side stand safety device. Luckily, this happened on my driveway or it would have left me stranded by the roadside. The orange reflector then detached itself from the front fork and dropped off somewhere. The gearbox then started to prove obstructive when changing down from fifth to forth. I took this to be a warning of a pending selector shaft problem, something which doesn’t exist according to Triumph. I could go on to mention the snatchy throttle and other minor issues but suffice to say, I’d had enough and traded it in for the Yamaha. I’m sure the latest version of the Street Twin (or Speed 900 as it’s now know) is now sorted but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to Triumph ownership having dealt with the dealership, thereby hangs another very lengthy tale of woe.

Sorry for your problems on the Triumph. I have one Speed Twin 900 bought in 2022 and had no faults at all! Excellent riding bike. I think they have corrected those inicial faults from the 2016 models.

@@aintnothinbutdablues That's great, I still think the speed twin 900 is a lovely looking bike, I may be returning to Triumph ownership as the new 400 cc single ticks many boxes for me. Enjoy your time with your bike, stay safe, best regards.
