Cycling the world - Europe: episode 49
On my way south from Nordkapp I crossed back into Finland and Lapland. I was aiming to go back to Akaslompolo but this time I was taking the bikepacking route designed by Taneli (@gonebikefishing) the Arctic Post Road. The Arctic Postal Road is a bikepacking route that takes you from Lapland in Finland practically till Nordkapp in Norway. I decided to stick to the paved road on my way up to be more quick taking advantage of the good weather window but on my way down I was willing to challenge myself with this wonderful route. Once I got to Hetta I joined the route that here follows the Hetta-Pallas hiking trail inside the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. This part one of the two and half days journey to Akaslompolo.

Another great video ! So what are the crosses ? Are they to mark the trail in deep snow ?

They are not crosses actually, they are arrow and yes they are there to mark the trail.

I don't know. The forests of Sweden and Finland would soon make me bored. Yes they are beautifu,l but there is not enough variety to really attract me to make me want to cycle there not to mention all the mosquitos and flies. I would prefer Norway with the high mountains, deep fjords and spectacular waterfalls. Km after km of cycling along forest trails has no interest for me. I was hoping having visitedt the Nordkapp you would go down the west coast of Norway and maybe visit some of the islands eg Lofoten Islands which are very beautiful, but I guess with winter almost arrived it was perhaps not possible. The risk of being eaten by polar bears maybe be high. Anyway safe cycling

Hey Alex! Yes probably there is less variety going down from Finland butt it turned out to be a great decision because of some opportunities I had in Finland. The rationale that made me go back down from Finland was mainly twofold: drier weather conditions and to be honest I didnt have any money to spend in ferries etc in Norway. I didnt have any problems with flies and mosquitoes because it already too cold for them also there are no polar bears in Scandinavia I think probably in some islands off Norway but surely not on mainland - there are some black bears in Scandinavia but it's very unlikely to see them or run into them, very different from North America where it's a big problem when camping out. I also had plans to meet a friend in the Baltic altho that fell through due to the covid restrictions.

@@DavideTravelli Cool. I am sure the ferries in Norway are free if you are a cyclist, except some ferries on very popular tourist routes where you have to pay. MathewNorway has lots of good information on cycling there kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMWee9x4r8yoYoE.html
