Bikepacking the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri

In September 2018 I set out to ride the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri bikepacking route. I got all the info from www.bikepacking.com/routes/alt..., including the gpx for the route.
The route is 500 km long, but features 20 000m of ascent. Also, the terrain in quite challenging, with a lot of pushing/carrying over steep rocky trails.
Luckily, the rewards for all the hard work were also plentiful. Amazing views, great wild camping, friendly people, and last but not least, the amazing Ligurian food, were some of the things that had me hardly wait to start riding each morning.
I finished the route in 13 days of riding. I also took a rest day in the amazingly charming small town of Sassello.
The bike I rode was my Norco Sight, onto which I pipe-clamped some Blackburn Outpost cages, and also a few bottle cages to get the desired water-carrying capacity.

What a high quality shootage! It doesn't seem a KZfaq video😉. Thanks for sharing because you inspired me. I live only one hour from Sassello and I have never cycled a meter of that route. It is the best post-lockdown adventure I can imagine now.

Che meraviglia...! un consiglio, sarebbe la ns 1' altavia in mtb. Mai stati in liguria. Dormendo nei b&b basta un zainetto da 25 con lo stretto necessario o caccio la grana e compro borse come le tue?

Fantastic video and a memorable MTB trip. Were you able to follow always the pedestrian trail? I did the AVML with a group of friends (Amici della Bici, FIAB Genova) in two trips, East and West from Genova, but with an e-MTB and a lot of detours. One week for each, sleeping always under cover in small hotels or simple huts. Could you make available the gpx data?

Nikola, great video. Amazing work! I'm planning on doing this trail next summer from Hotel Paretin(km 159) to the hills over Savona (km 328). How are the conditions of the trail between this two points? Can it be done with carrying a bit more equipment than you did?

Thank you Leopoldo! You should definitely do the route. It was one of the best experiences of my life! But it was also one of the hardest things I've done on a bike. The stretch from Cabanne to Altare you mention features some grueling hike a bikes on difficult alpine terrain. Especially the part from Casello to Masone. You should try to carry as little as possible, and pack the lightest you can. Be prepared to push and carry your bike. You'll be glad you packed light when it comes to that. Also make sure your bike fits the terrain, and that you can do some pretty technical descending on it. Some of the descents feature DH level sections. You can certainly do it with more gear. But you'll feel like you're hauling an anchor :).
