I think I'll be rebellious when I tackle the Rebellion way. I'll do it on my Brompton:) Looks like a nice gentle route with plenty of history. Thanks for the video Sandy

As usual a superb adventure. Great filming! Perfect choice of music, you certainly have a musical ear. My go to, to relax. After 6 months off the bike with a knee injury, I’m finally cycling again! Such joy! And you kept my chin up with your videos, thank you Josh ❤( by the way, it was a pheasant, not a peacock, swawking you to sleep 😂😂😂)

Just tried this at the weekend but had to give up because of underlying health issue. First thing, don't get off the train at Norwich on a Saturday afternoon when Norwich are playing at home. You go straight past the ground and nobody wants to move out the way. Second, Wacton Common.... read very bumpy cow field! After Diss the back lanes flat and very quiet and peaceful. Up to Thetford was also very nice through the forest with plenty of places to wildcamp. Loads of pheasants ( not peacocks) that drive you mad about sunset. Will try again next spring if I get my ongoing health issure sorted. Thats my review from Norwich to Thetford. Shorter daylight hours now make it racing against clock for useable sunlight. Plus the fireworks and boy racer big bore exhuasts makes it a challenge at night at the momment. Well done for doing it and a big thumbs up from me for making the video.

Hey mate, great vid. I have this planned for next year. All the places you passed through all well known to me being Kings Lynn area based, just such a shame there isn’t more off road. When I initially checked the route I expected more of Peddars way to be used. Thinking my gravel bike with lightly treaded tyres to be perfect for the route. ATB mate

Good vid, I do worry about your high mileage per day and the speed you ride, I've done it now got dodgy knees. Bike packing and cycle touring is about taking the time to visit places, stop for coffee and cake, stop for a pint, photos of villages and places of interest. When camping why not show us your boil in the bag meal in evening! I do worry about your diet though 😄 take care on the mileage, less racing along is what I advise a more guiding people and encouraging newbies to try it in a way that doesn't put them off, sorry spouted on a bit I will keep watching your progress though, take care 👋

This is not high mileage, and i do stop and take pictures i mean i manage to produce and entire video with them as you can see. I have a before you ride video to let people know what to expect, Because when i get i to camp i don't cook anything i just go to bed.listen to some music take a bit of time for myself. I have no interest in stopping for a pint or a meal, I've spent enough of my life working in that industry to know i Don't need to spend anymore time in it. And bike packing/ touring for me is more about being away from everything, getting away from that consume lifestyle that we live in. Ive been doing it for the last 12 years

You have really captured the atmosphere of this Norfolk ride. Could you tell us how much harder it is to pedal the 29er plus wheels of the Beyond compared to the gravel bike? I've just converted a fat bike to a 29er plus with three-inch tyres. It plows over everything but feels kind of tiring to ride.
@KeepSmilingAdventures
@KeepSmilingAdventures Жыл бұрын
hard to say really if comparing it just riding on road then it's just a 3/5 mph slower but if i am riding all day over rough terrain then i get less tired on the bombtrack. but average around the same speed.
@weeringjohnny
@weeringjohnny Жыл бұрын
@@KeepSmilingAdventures Sorry, I meant a fat bike to 29er plus, obviously. I really value your answer. I was coming to pretty much the same conclusion myself. The nastier the terrain, the better the plus bike does.

It is disappointing how much road there is on this route, 70% per the map. I live in Norfolk and have cycled much of this, all though not in one go. I was hoping they'd work with authorities to join up off road sections, as there are quite a bit but difficult to string together - however the authorities were not aware of this route at all (I know because it would have landed on one of my best friends desk if they had). So i'm bit confused as to what the funding was used for, it certainly wasn't infrastructure. I'm really still surprised by the lack of off road - in many of the sections - particularly in the north section (where I did a gravel sportive earlier this year), and even the route south of Norwich (where I'm based) I know of a offroad section from pretty much hempnall down to pulham (which I take), and sure could find more. On the plus side, this route is great if you want to take your time and tour, so many good farm shops and food/pubs around the route - so given this is an easy route, its probably one to just relax, and have some fun with friends, and treat your self to some luxuries, visit breweries rather than eat crap garage and coop food (which on more wilder trips is often what you're limitied to). Glad you struggled to find somewhere to camp as well, though - thought I was just being a chicken when I did peddars way and across to blakeney earlier this year... couldn't find anywhere I felt comfortable with, ended up on a campsite at Blakeney for £8. Also you have got to be really careful in some of those woods in the fields at this time of year! There is a lot of game shooting going on right now - I hope you do it again in some nicer weather (actually the sunniest part of the UK, so unlucky). The route was also put togehter with out really any local knowldge, they go into some big towns and on some roads most would never chose to.

Hi JSA, as you guessed this was very much designed as an easy intro to multi day touring for people with limited/no previous gravel riding experience. We figured that would suit the folks who'd be drawn to a route in Norfolk anyway. The next Cycling UK route to launch is across Snowdonia and definitely has some serious off road content so hopefully that'll balance this one out for more hardcore riders. Cheers, Guy (part of the route creation team and the guidebook writer for Rebellion Way)

@KeepSmilingAdventures
@KeepSmilingAdventures Жыл бұрын
The off road sections shouldn't be to much of a problem as they are mostly just gravel or grass but the bure valley path (train line section) is pretty narrow. And the section at 07:30 is a narrow but quite short bit of single track. (its just after Sheringham) And there are 2 gates that you may need to lift your bike over, as they are the kind of gates you stand in between (can see them in the before you ride video)

We’re the roads busy? If there’s a group of cyclists cycling on busy roads can distract from the pleasure of cycling together. That’s why I enjoy cycling in the Netherlands every year. Take the overnight ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam.
