China is pretty much national socialist economics under a different label. And I'm not saying that as a bad thing, just in a more matter of fact way. There are minor differences, but the general fundamentals are the same. I think another reason the socialism/capitalism divide is so strong is since people are afraid some leeway will lead to the extreme of the other. "Oh we have to let the rich do whatever they want with no government oversight or else we will become a communist dystopia!" here is the thing, allowing the rich to do whatever has now allowed them to effectively buy the government which has increased their power and influence far more than some basic government oversights in the past would have. On the other side you have "Oh we can't let people have private property or else there will be a capitalist dystopia where corporations run everything!" well guess what, now that the government owns everything, they have effectively become one mega-corporation with a monopoly you have zero control over. I think solutions are a little more complex than "take the middle ground on everything", but handing complete control of a country over to one sector (Finance, political, military, etc.) usually doesn't end well, with the worst of that sector being given the ability to thrive. The current US is a case of the financial sector controlling everything, congress, the president, and the military all serve financial interests. The USSR is a case of the political sector controlling everything, the economy, the military, everything served the state. Imperial Japan is a case of the military sector controlling everything, even religion was reshaped to serve the military.

Everything you’ve said I see as basic knowledge all people should know. The problem is it isn’t and I could and have in the past spoken at great lengths as to why this is. Takes like these is what is needed to further and create new conversation about a way forward. What I can say is no matter how you characterize what the Chinese are doing, the fact is they have for the present time found the most effective way to grow their economy and many lessons can be learned from them. Thanks for commenting.

You can't blame capitalism because we don't have capitalism and haven't since 1971 when we decoupled our currency from gold. What we have is fascism.

Actually, what's broken is these oligarchies and money markets. Socialism works IF humans can be selfless (but we can't). Capitalism works IF we get maximal participation (so needs to be fair). Where we can bring it to the middle, is to tax non-work income (estate tax on trust funds and capital gains). Make it impossible to hide money (needs global cooperation, which is also tough). What we can do - reach consensus what's basic human right (food, shelter, medical treatment?) so that suffering is minimal.

Another instance of someone making the claim what system works due to the way humans are wired and though I’m empathetic to those arguments, human psychology in my experience suggests no evidence supporting that. What you’re describing I would liken to social democracy, though what you’ve described goes a bit further than the examples we’ve seen. Those examples by the way have had their own struggles and a debate can be had whether or not that’s the correct way to structure a society. Honestly, I could live contently in the kind of model/system you’ve described but attaining it and making sure it remains is much easier said than done. Good comment.

@@prikipriki30 uh no dude. That is absolutely not true. Human nature is absolutely not shaped by the system. There is a reason why every major civilization eventually failed, and that was because of human nature. There is an inevitable cycle: hard times make strong men, strong men make good times, good times make weak men, weak men make hard times. It has happened time and time again. When you're sitting pretty, living in the greatest of times where you can literally have any information fed to you while you're on the crapper yet still believe you are living in hard times, that tells me we're in the good times make weak men part.

Good take on it, but my biggest downsides of socialism: class inequality still exists, you don't get to pick your career, and you can't get ahead by cutting spending. You can't accumulate anything.

Also, Bill Burr's net worth is 12 million dollars, so I would take Bill's views on Capitalism with a grain of salt. Bill's asinine positive view of Socialism aside, I think he is one of the greatest stand-ups of all time. Besides, Capitalism already has sprinkles of Socialism within it, which is a good thing.

@@steamgamerdk6723 The Socialism that exists in the Scandinavian regions are a hybrid of Socialism and Capitalism, which I'm fine with. So, by your logic, if there had never been an economic embargo on Cuba, Fidel Castro wouldn't have been a totalitarian dictator? Your ignorance of Castro's constant repression of the civil rights of Cubans is breathtaking. He wanted Cuba to be a Communist country. You mention "towing the line". When Cubans didn't "tow the line" they were imprisoned or killed.
@maliek-sama7314

I never insinuated anything of the sort, so “my ignorance” at least the way I see it is something you made up having misinterpreted what was said in the video. Though I don’t fault you for that, happens often. However, I’m interested in one thing you said. How exactly would you describe human nature? I’m asking how you personally see it.
@luckyleo787
@luckyleo787 Жыл бұрын
@@maliek-sama7314 you take the disingenuous position, that Cuba's failings as a Socialist country are the fault of the U.S. trade embargo. I take it back: I don't think you're ignorant of Castro's atrocities...I think you are guilty of omission, which is worse than ignorance. Socialism has it's merits, as long as it is not allowed to run amok, turning into Communism. The only way Socialism has ever worked, is in a hybrid form with Capitalism. Someone mentioned Scandinavia as an example of this. Not bad, but even those countries are moving closer to the center. As to "human nature: Neuroscience has proven that we, as humans, are always seeking more of the things that make us feel good. Capitalism works best to fulfill this need. Money is a tool that helps to provide for that need. When I speak of Capitalism, I am not advocating for a narrow-minded, myopic, laissez-faire, Ayn Rand nightmare.

@@luckyleo787 I mentioned the embargo only to provide another reason for the Cuban situation, I felt it necessary if one intends to be honest rather than assailing against “socialism” and pretending to be correct. Never did I state that the embargo was the sole root of their problems but it is a major contributor. The same goes for other countries mentioned. I figured this would be easy to understand, then again maybe I could have been clearer with my words. Of course I disagree with the majority of what you’ve said but that’s fine and very healthy for discourse in my opinion. Thanks for providing how you see human nature it’s as I thought it would be. Hopefully we understand each other better.

Capitalism - An economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. U.S. is not a capitalist country, it's quite free, economically speaking, but it's not capitalist. Capitalism requires no state interventions.
