Thank you for your insight. We always welcome perspectives to help us understand (in retrospect) our culture through fresh eyes and ideas. With the war over, our "BIG BAND" musical stylings continued, unaware of "something" looming ahead. Several musical styles were about to collide.. Snippets of traditional Blues would find an uptempo beat to veer away from traditional band jazz stylings (someone was quoted as to say"...... I don't want any of that slow jazz, give me that jump jazz", without all the orchestration of big band structure. A faster styling of "rhythm and blues" was being honed in 😮jazz venues. "TEXAS SWING was added for seasoning, and a pinch of "ROCKABILLY" from country artists was added. Add a few more stylings that I've forgotten to mention, and African-American musicians did what they do best. Think of the minstrel music, Ragtime, the variations of Blues and JAZZ et al. Even in the segregated societies of the 50s, a younger audience on both dides of the colour line wanted to pass on traditional big band and mainstream Pop ballads. When it came time to dance, it had better be jumping. The origin of the term "ROCK & ROLL" did have certain roots in sexual slang, but it was the music that had to be heard and enjoyed. Mr Haley and company found a place to jump in and start playing this new style. Slowly and delicately, African American artists were actually allowed to "integrate" their music into societies barred to them before ( research the movie "THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT" to follow my line of reasoning )
