"COMICS ONLY" was one of the first original programs on the brand-new upstart Comedy Central network. The very first episode featured BILL HICKS and CATHY LADMAN. This is a later appearance of Hicks' on the series.
Much of the material Bill does on his "Comics Only" appearances went on to become classics in his ouvre, appearing on his all-too-few recordings and specials.
On each of his appearances on the series, Bill chose to do material rather than more free-form conversation - largely because at this point in his career, so few other outlets on TV would allow him on to do his material, and he wanted every oportunity to get it out there to a wider audience. Rather than presume people cared to hear him just talk, he felt his material should speak for him.
We think it does.
See the description in the playlist heading for more details on "COMICS ONLY".

I grew up as an eight year old when the Luby's massacre happened. Our whole class was stunned and most crying because one of the childrens parents were killed.. Elementary school in Austin. and yet, it peels tears away when Hicks delivers his joke the way he does. he's not making fun of it - he's pissed and trying to help us to not grieve and get pissed about this crap too.

I love Bill Hicks; but I love comedy more. Many, many, many comedians compare quite favorably to Bill Hicks. Bill was great and unique but take his philosophy away and the comedy isn't really all that good. He spawned (partly) the Alt scene, has many disciples, but compared to his peers Dave Attell or Mitch Hedburg and he's not even as funny.
@andrewmarinelly5838
@andrewmarinelly5838 2 жыл бұрын
As the video ended I realized He was way before Dave and Mitch despite his specials breaking as theirs did he was on Rodney's young comedians special with Dice. So yes he was way funnier than most of his peers but honestly I think Dice as hacky and offensive as that persona is funnier too.

He is disguised now as Alex old Billy Hickness in order to teach us more about the powers that be so we can fully trust his incredibly knowledge right? Alex... Bill... whatever your real name is. Its interviews like these that fully expose who you are. All you did to become Alex is drop the clown act.
