So Maher - the guy who's entire persona at this point is built around mocking the idea of being offended by jokes or satire - is offended when *he's* the subject of the joke and/or satire. It's so beautiful you could hang it in the Smithsonian.

I once saw Maher's standup (about a decade ago) and it was bizarre how few jokes there were. He'd often just make a point and wait for an applause break. Not laughter, but just an arena of people clapping, "Yes! I Agree!" It felt more like a State of the Union than a comedy show. Reeeeally weird vibe.
@Ganbarizer
@Ganbarizer 11 ай бұрын
I feel like he's been trying to recreate George Carlin's schtick of being able to blend political/social topics with comedy but he just comes off as some stuck up guy ranting about everyone being too sensitive for 45 minutes. Dave Chappelle is like this now. He went from a smart, funny, ridiculous, boundary pushing type of style to old man yells at clouds.
@can72287
@can72287 11 ай бұрын
I can’t say I agree about the Chapelle comparison. Unlike Maher; Chappelle actually did have a battle at cancelation by the culture. Maher just ranted about the culture but it never (in its modern form; and if it actually exists) really came for him. In fact Chapelle had to fight for his career. Maher is pretty much unscathed and adulated…..until this skit. In some weird way; he probally never would have realized this “Club Random” makes him look bad; his tv show and stand up being so polished….the so called “Real” Maher is something close to unintended self destruction of his image.

Then pot got legalized and no one cares about it anymore, and now everyone sees he's no different than any other crotchety old conservative boomer. His stand up back in the day wasn't even that good yet he claims to be a disciple of the likes of George Carlin lol. I started to really turn on him after he made religulous. Not because it's a movie about atheism but because there were so many clear dishonest edits in the interviews, and so many complete factual inaccuracies and complete fabrications about other religions that a quick Google search would have resolved. Like I'm cool for advocating logic and reason and atheism but the points he's making have 0 weight when he's clearly not being honest on purpose to suit his narrative.

Maher's latest episode he out of character stood up, it was another short guy conveniently,and warmly greeted his guest pre show. Guarantee it was a reaction to your hilarious take on him. See? You're helping him appear socially adept.👍

Who is Bill Mayer? Is that John Mayer's Dad? Or is Bill Mayer the mayor of old weirdo town in creepo land?

There is something so awesome about Tim Heidecker continuing with the spirit of Tim and Eric Awesome show and Tom goes to the Mayor! Sorry but Maher is turning into the grumpy old man he use to make fun of.

GENIUS PARODY! On so many levels. Maher interviewing for decades the biggest celebrities, Hiedecker spotlighting mediocrity, and then in true Maher fashion, becoming the center of the interview, leaving the guest not Knowing who just interviewed who?
