Exactly. I wish people were still up Elon's ass about "solving world hunger" for approx 7bn (his # not mine). But bought twitter for 40bn and its value is below 20bn rn. That difference in scale could have double (nearly triply) "solved" world hunger. Or did a SIZEABLE dent globally. 😔 Mr. Beast actually gives back. That's a huge thing to do. Edit: since this was getting traction. I felt the need to clarify. I didn't literally mean the man solves world hunger (not sure thats a thing), I just meant moving food to areas where there is less, even none, is expensive. 40bn could have provided food to millions for long periods of time, instead of a useless social media app. 🙌

My best friend is in a wheelchair. She herself calls herself disabled. She's the most incredible person I've ever known: generous, kind, loving, and the most open-minded person I know. She was once filling out some paperwork and put down that she was disabled. The lady at the front desk got pissy with her and said she needs to write *differently abled* and gave her a stern talking-to about how calling herself disabled was incorrect. She was not rude back and simply told her that that's what she calls herself because she is disabled and left it at that. My friend was 14 when she lost her ability to move, in a car wreck where half her family died. She has never complained and instead remains one of the most positive happy and outgoing inspirational persons I have ever met. I'm so grateful for her friendship and kindness and all the hard work she has accomplished. She can call herself whatever she damn well wants lol.

Even so, they still help people. Unlike most people in the comment section, including me. And last time I checked, helping others is never a bad thing. Say, if Mr Beast is actually the most corrupt person in the world and when he earns 30m from views and sponsors, he gives the 5m back for charity and use the 25m on his own. In the end, he gave 5m to charity. The most I gave is like $5 to that beggar on the street when I had excess money. So, between me, who isn't corrupt and mr beast who is corrupt for taking the other 25m, who helped more? (I'm not mad at you btw, just expressing anger in general about people finding fault at charities.)

@@konaqua122 The OP here was not dissing Mr. Beast but rather charities in general and, although they are not wrong, do not actually go far enough. Many charities actually perpetuate problems as this is the only way they can keep the money flowing. Then you have charities such as Oxfam where your clothes donations to Africa get bundled onto pallets where they are sold to the highest bidder at the side of the runway to later be sold on the local markets (with the lower quality clothes being sold directly on the street). I saw this and far worse with my own eyes when I went to Uganda in the early 2000's. We live in a capitalist world that is unfortunately full of unscrupulous people who will turn others plight into a business if the only thing people are willing to do is throw money at the problem!

Not coping, fear of loneliness. Sometimes people subconsciously believe that their disability is the most important part of themselves because of the compassion or sympathy it garners. If they do not have a reason to receive it, they lose it, and it's scary for them to think that if I don't have this thing I won't be special any longer.

So if Taylor Lorenz acknowledges that blindness is a “disability,” then doesn’t that mean she is classifying them as “different,” then doesn’t that defeat her whole argument that blind people are seen as an “other?” Isn’t she, a non blind person, putting them into a category and speaking on behalf of them? Isn’t that ableist? 🤔

The way I look at disability is that anybody who wants and accepts help should be helped. If a person is comfortable with who they are, with whatever disability they have, no one should ever shame them and make them feel lesser because of it. However, if help is available and you don't accept it, don't expect people to go around slapping you on the back and acting like you're a special hero because you have a disability.

I think that the internet has permeated society and spread to the point that some people can't disconnect their behavior online from their public behavior. Before, the internet was on a commuter at a desk and it took ten minutes to load a jpeg. It was contained in one place but now we all have the internet around us at all times. So it only makes sense that it may be harder to separate how someone acts socially in person versus online.

I think the problem with the disability being normalized is that it's fantastic for the affected people to acclimate themselves with their condition and learn to accept it, but sometimes they make their disability identify who they are to the point where suddenly they refuse a cure when they find it. Which is really common with blind people and deaf people. Which makes it really a shame when society enable this.

This is true for victim/defeat/depression mentalities as well. Obviously this is a MUCH deeper topic, but, whenever my buddies would ask me for help, I would listen for hours just so they feel they've been heard and then I would try to package the practical steps in a firm but easy way to alleviate their issues. They agree 100% with what i'm saying, almost like they already knew the answer, and my friends would leave the call all pumped to change. Next week comes around & guess what? Same f***ing nonsense. They just want to talk about "poor me! The world hates me!" I say np, I try for MONTHS, insane patience, but eventually I just realize these people are identified with their pain and if they lose it then they would lose themselves. So as much as it pains them, the pain is comfortable but the cure is foreign to them and egos don't like the unknown.

This causes people to play the "how low can you go" game with their income. People will literally plead their employer not to make them work as many hours as they do because if they work those hours, their welfare benefits (which includes healthcare) are taken away. One way that welfare recipients play around this is to do work under the table, and also includes illegal activities like selling drugs. Its about protecting the racket. for 30 Million I could hire a plane, a few dozen contractors, buy the materials, and fly the whole operation over to West Africa to put in more water wells in, in a month, than they have in 5 years. Charities are self sustained bureaucraies that thrive off of minimal action for the money. You are better off just taking donations yourelf and going over there and spending it directly. The occupation of Afghanistan built more infrastructure in a year than a charity in a peaceful country will do in a decade, and for cheaper too. My take on disability is - to never force your help and respect autonomy, but always help with their consent. Same goes for children and elderly. When i see a blind guy struggling to get on the bus - i'm not gonna push him inside, just tell "hey dude, door is to your left". If he's still struggles - i'd ask if he needs help. If bus doesn't announce stops (or does it wrongly) - i'll ask where he's going so he'd not miss his. And if we're going off at the same stop - ask if he's familiar with the landscape or wants some directions. Disabled human is no less of a human, just disabled.

They just hate selfishness. But selfishness is what makes MrBeast's philanthropy possible to begin with. He helps these others because that's what *he* personally wants for them; and then he uses the self-benefit from uploading videos to make more of the change he wants to see in the world happen. It's basic capitalism. Everyone else hates it because selfishness is supposed to be this force of evil and corruption so they can blame capitalism for all the problems in their life, instead of taking personal responsibility to make things better however they can. So when they get one-upped, whether they're terminally online tankies or literal government officials in the African countries that got new wells, they're going to get mad.

I don't agree with Asmon's takes 100% of the time, but you can always trust him to be honest and straightforward about what he sees and how he sees it. Valuable and rare thing in these times, in his profession especially.

I was wondering where he was gonna go with that mom's basement joke, and he didn't disappoint.

As a disabled person, and a gamer naturally, I found when you called a disability an debuff awesome! As it's true. And it makes sense, the DM rolled a Nat 20 in my event and now I have a permanent debuff called "maimed" for the loss of a leg, and now I have to play the rest of life on a harder mode. Which is fine... shit happens and it it what it is, but I also occasionally run into other players who: a. don't want me around because I make them uncomfortable b. don't see that the world still is recovering from the old mentality "Disabled people shouldn't be seen and should just stay home!", and that some places still could use some easy access. c. don't care if that parking-spot is designated for disabled people, "I'm only going to be a short while!"... while I'm trying to park. that really annoys me, and could be contributing in making me wish I could play it solo. But luckily the majority where I live isn't that way, and is helpful.

My man said "I got a permanent debuff (disability) because my DM rolled a nat 20", that's crazy Shout-out to a fellow DnD player

The biggest underlying hurdle about the whole “ableist” ideology and how that those particular people feel and think that “disabilities aren’t something that need to be fixed” is that the large majority of them have made and/or consider their own, personal disability to be the core foundation of who they are. Granted, it *is* a big *PART* of who they are, but instead of letting it be a *part* of who they are as a person, so many of them let it *define* who they are as a person and then they become one in the same. They’ve done this to such an extent that their disability is now their identity, it’s no longer just a part of them, it *is* them; in their own eyes. So, when we say, “hey, we could make that better, or, at the very least, we can make it so it doesn’t hinder you so much and we can improve your quality of life, etc,”all that they ultimately hear is “there’s something *wrong* with *YOU* and it needs to be fixed; *YOU* need to be fixed.” They don’t hear, “we could help or fix a *part* of you and help you overall.”

I actually had no idea who Mr Beast was before this . But having an unbiased opinion and knowing nothing about him . Helping 1000 people cure blindness and constructed 100 wells in Africa for clean drinking water and rebuilt an orphanage haha I dont care if he speaks like an asshole . His actions = good dude ... most people who make millions from social media don't turn around and spend the millions to help other people . They buy super cars and post on Instagram or start a crypto scam haha so Mr Beast is a solid dude

I understand that they say he only does it for views but he still helps people. And what do they prefer? He helps one group of people offscreen, doesn't make anything out of it then doesn't have budget to help anyone else or he helps the same groups on screen and get an infinite loop of "help -> get budget to help -> help again" and repeat. They would rather nobody getting any help.
