The Daily Show

Күн бұрын

Bill O’Reilly sits down with Jon Stewart, despite their differing ideologies, to discuss his new book “Confronting the Presidents.” The two talk about political fanaticism following the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, whether we’re experiencing a unique time of polarization, the danger of monetizing anger and hate speech, and debating the real-life consequences of the 2024 election in good faith. #DailyShow #JonStewart #BillOReilly

Fwiw, I believe Glen Beck was the craziest. Tucker is always lost in his own spin, and juvenile. Bill was understudy for "All in the Family", and speaks like a (bad know-it-all) dad. His show was the least useful of those 3 to watch, you could approximate his takes from a few minutes per year of secondhand clips shown elsewhere. Zero investigation or nuance. It conditioned old, dumb men to be more confident and gave them talking points to spew as their minds rot away.

I could tell you what trump did to create the inflation hike. He refused to domestically prepare the US for Covid-19 (we had at least a month of warning before it hit), right up in till it was tanking the stock market. This gross inaction led to a lot of lockdowns that greatly hurt our nation’s logistics. When the lockdowns ended in 2021 the still hurt logistics could not keep up with the consumer demand which led to price hikes across the board (this would have happened if trump was still president as well).

That's the thing. With every presidency, we can talk about how various numbers are up or down during their presidency, but unless you can connect the number to direct things the president has done, you really can't say there's any relation. And to Jon Stewart's point, when it comes to economic numbers, the numbers mean nothing if not compared to the world economy. If the whole world is doing badly, the problem probably isn't the president. In this particular case, every one of those numbers can be tied to events happening around the world that are outside of Biden's control. AND you can pinpoint many actions Biden has taken to fix those things that have been blocked either by the Republican majority in congress, Joe Mansion & Kristen Cinema previously, the Conservative Supreme Court. Not to mention, Biden has been successful in many other actions that do have us doing better on many statistics compared to the rest of the world. When judging a presidents ability to do the job, those details matter. You can say I'm bad at MY job because your life has been worse since I started my job... It's meaningless if you can't explain what I did to make your life worse.

In fact, the only reason this interview worked is because it was such a clear case of Bill being a wrestling Heel to Jon’s Babyface and him running circles around O’Reilly with jokes. That may be.. and I have a ton of respect for Stewart for being top notch funny while also provocative at times. He is also more even in his criticism of both sides. I respect and enjoy him. Counter that to John Oliver who is a name caller and labeler and every other polarized bad thing from the left perspective that is a big part of the problem in society today from both sides… The extreme right isn’t the only problem- far left is just as much to blame!

I guess you are ignorant of their history. It was an entertaining back and forth. Do you actually expect a single 12 minute interview to be meaningfully substantive? For those of us who have watched Daily Show for a long time, this was nostalgic.

You are confusing CPI and price levels. The CPI is the rate of change. The CPI is lowering (ie the rate of change is decreasing) but that doesn't fix the price levels that are there. Moreover, do you think corporations just got greedy? There goal has always been to maximize profit. Competition is what keeps prices low and quality increasing
