I took up ITF Taekwon-do when I was 16, 1973. I did some Tournaments back in the day, even made it to the Long Beach Internationals in 1975 where I actually got to talk to Ed Parker. I watched all of your PKA fights .. all of them. I made it to Red Belt with a Black Stripe before a Green Belt who I was demonstrating a front leg Hook-Kick blocked it with a traditional outside to inside block with enough force to tear the Knee to the point I was out of training for over 6 months. When I was able to train again I couldn't kick with my Left Knee and could barely walk on it, 5 years later I tried again this time WTF Taekwondo because it was the only TKD available in the area where I was station in the Navy. The Master Instructor let me spare with all of his Black Belts. I was on my way back when I slipped down a "Ladder" onboard USS Wichita AOR-1 carrying some boxes, landed on the bad knee, and was put on Leave for 6 months for it to heal. The Navy Doctors told me I could never KICK again. I took up Tennis with a vengeance, got very good.. USTA 4.5 -5.0 Player at 28 years of age, with a bad left knee. The Knee got worst and worst to the point I could not even play Doubles competently anymore, so, I gave up and got fat.. really fat. When I got to 297 lbs after my double bi-pass surgery about 3 years ago I decided to get back into Martial Arts, so I took up ARNIS because it didn't focus on Kicking. 2 years ago I had a total Knee Replacement on my Left Knee, it was a GAME CHANGER for me, I could kick again, stand on both knees and kick the bag with force with BOTH LEGS! I am now 220 pounds kicking the heavy bag and BOB, doing spinning kicks again. My goal is to be under 190 and to spar before I kick the bucket. Seeing you at the age of 75 still kicking the BAG with force gives me hope, I'm sure I'm not the only one. Keep kicking that bag Mr. Wallace, and I hope someday I can see you in person at some event in the future. Thanks for being there.
